Carnival pulls the plug

Carnival pulled the plug this morning on their Funville Forums.   A lot of cruise information was dispensed by experienced cruisers, myself included.  Mostly about Carnival, but a lot of general info too.     Many of us bonded, and joked and often became snarky in our responses.   We had fun.   Sad.

Hopefully any displaced Funville folk will find their way over here.  We’d love to offer them a new home as Cruiseline.com Members!  Any thoughts on how to leave a trail of breadcrumbs for them to follow?

Maybe find the guy like Simon who ran the site.

I know who ran/ moderated the site. I believe they were offered other positions.  It was shut down because someone new, large & in charge, felt people were using other social media outlets for their info.  We all just believe it was a cost cutting move.   Many moved onto FB groups ( at least one was created just for former FV users ).  Someone else created a site called Cruisefan.com ( I didn't join ).    I frequently mentioned this site over there, but when they would check it out, they would complain about the lack of posters ( hey it's still growing )

Many of them are Carnival fans who think Carnival is the greatest.  I caught flack for trying to correct them.   Things got real ugly for awhile when someone decided it would be fun to create an alternate screen name ( called a sock puppet ).  This alternate, started insulting people, slandering others, just being an obnoxious jerk.   I admit, I got suckered in.   A few of the best left.   Some came back, but the damage was done.  The site was neutered, and now it's gone.

We even tried putting together a FV cruise. Should have been easy right ?  Nope.   No one could agree on the date, so, I set one.  Set the ship / date / itinerary. The response.....an overwhelming set of excuses for not going.  So, it blew up in my face.   I actually backed out a month after I booked because something better came up ( then that got cancelled too ).  Unlike here however, Carnival offered no assistance in this endeavor.

Anyway, I will send out some e mails and see what happens.

If they come on over, I know they will find a great group here. I'm looking forward to meeting many of the members  of this site.

I totally agree with you Cromp on the reason why Carnival closed the forum due to yet another cost cutting measure and using a different web base page. Unlike any other cruise line, Carnival had something for their faithful cruisers and followers to post and have fun on but, they let it get out of hand and in light of the forum closing, I believe they let it go bad just to have a reason to close it. What I did find very amusing was how certain individuals continue to blame others for it and one of them was banned not once, but twice. Too Sad Too Bad the site is gone. Carnival once cared about their loyal fans, which there isn't any other site like it and they shoved it back in the members faces like they did with the FTTF.
