Review summary

This is a great adventure. I would not recommend it for November as the rainy season starts then, we actually saw a lot of rain, adapted to it. Humidity was very high because of the rains. They offer this itinerary in March and that might be a better time.

Embarkation

The organizers needed organizing! It was not Holland staff and they did not communicate well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Good food. There were many shortages for some reason, supplies just didn’t get stocked but the crew made it all work!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Fitness center was great. Pools were beautiful. Enrichment programs were wonderful.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
This was the weakest area. A few great entertainers and several mediocre entertainers and two horrible experiences! The Zuiderdam singers and dancers just kept getting better and better each performance!

Children's Programs

No kids!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew could not have been better! They are happy to be back working and thanked us for sailing so often. They went above and beyond. Being home I miss them greatly!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Constantly working on the ship. Crew takes great pride in her appearance!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Small but comfortable. Clean and in reasonably good repair. Location was good for us, away from entertainment venues so it was quiet.

Ship tip

Explore the art on board, there are some hidden gems!

Got into town a day early and explored

San Francisco, California

Love this city. Used the Hop On Hop Off and afterwards just walked along the pier. Great food!

San Diego, California

Visited the USS Midway this time, within walking distance and we purchased our tickets online before arrival so no line!

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Did an excursion here in this beautiful place and explored the area.

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
Spent 2 days, pre purchased HoHo tickets before sailing and got the pack that allowed us to go on all routes. Since we had 2 days in port it allowed us to see so much. Highly recommend this. It was crowded, very crowded, but I think Honolulu is just so busy all the time.

Nawiliwili, Kauai

5 out of 5
Kauai is my favorite island. Did not do an excursion as the one we wanted was cancelled. I recommend going north and exploring the Hanalei area. We ate at Dukes, iconic!

Kahului, Maui

We took a bus to Lahaina and wandered that cute little town.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Did a Kona highlights tour, it was nice. Saw some interesting areas. Púuhonua o Hõnaunau , a National Park, is a must see! Had lunch near the port.

Cross International Dateline

Not a port, just a sea day crossing the line!

Apia, Samoa

Took a tour of the highlights. Went to a vanilla farm…..very interesting! Shelley is passionate about her farm!

Suva, Fiji

We spent the day at the Pearl Resort, it was a lovely facility and they had singers and dancers entertaining us after a nice lunch (provided with tour). 2 pools, no swimming beach, nice grounds. It was about an hour bus ride from the ship so we got to see the island!

Dravuni Island, Fiji Did not visit port

Unable to make it to this port due to weather.

Lautoka, Fiji Islands

A city, but unfortunately we arrived on a holiday so most stores were closed. We just walked around a bit, shopped at Jack’s. Returned to the ship. They did provide a free shuttle from ship to town center.

Nuku'Alofa, Tonga Islands

5 out of 5
No excursion here, we had signed up for a private tour but when we got out to the bus it was so disorganized and the buses were full but they were going to make room for us…we bailed! Walked around the town. The people were so friendly and welcoming, it has been very hard on them with no tourist dollars. Nice show on dock on our arrival, nice market stalls right at pier! Good prices.

Aitutaki, Cook Islands

Even though I didn’t get to go ashore (in quarantine due to COVID) my hubby went out and hiked around the island. He took beau pictures and found a lovely resort at the end of the road. It was a beautiful view from the ship.

Rarotonga, Cook Islands Did not visit port

Bad weather

Spent 2 days. Be sure to visit the big market, what an experience! The park along the docks is lovely. Walked around and enjoyed the area. Nice dining places right on the water.

Moorea, French Polynesia

This is an incredibly beautiful place. I would love to spend a couple weeks on this island would be magical. We took a cab from the port to a lovely shopping area a short walk from a beach. Snorkeling, sunbathing was wonderful.

Fakarava, Tuamotu Archipelago

Raining here so I stayed aboard, hubby donned his rain coat and walked the island. Saw sharks and a fishing dog! It is flat, not much to see but it is pretty.

Nuku Hiva, Marquesas

Small port, went to the market, had singers, lots of stalls selling beautiful handmade crafts for good prices. Hubby walked down to see the church and explore a bit. Very friendly people.
