It was a wonderful cruise with a wonderful destination. The crew ion the ship is  amazing and the side trips we took were wonderful although we did not take any from the boat. You don't need to you can find them on land much cheaper. The room was great and the food was decent.  We had a room with a balcony and it was very roomy.

This was an excellent introduction to the Yukon and Alaska,  We visited Juneau, Skagway, White Horse, Dawson City, Fairbanks, Denali, and Anchorage.  It included three days on the Volendam followed by 7 days ashore.  Although the cruise portion advertised Tracy Arm, AK, as a stop, only passengers who booked a separate tour on a boat went into Tracy Arm.  On an earlier cruise on Celebrity, the ship went into Tracy Arm for an outstanding experience viewing the glacier.  Our room on the Volendam had air conditioning problems that we could not get fixed, resulting in our trying to sleep in a hot room for the three nights on the ship.  The land portion was terrific, as we had an excellent tour guide, Tim Kelley, who coordinated everything and made sure we missed very little.  Unfortunately, Mount McKinley (Denali) was socked in, so we were unable to view it.  The flight on Air North from Dawson City to Fairbanks was outstanding, as was the train ride from Denali to Anchorage.  All in all, all seven of our family members who took the vacation has an excellent experience and fun time.

This was our first cruise. It was the most relaxing vacation I have ever experienced. We disconnected and let the world float by - wonderful! I am told we were lucky with the weather given that we had about half an hour of drizzle and nothing more. Our suite was 7002 which is very generous in size. On the plus side you only have another verandah on one side of you and the verandah is large. On the minus there is a staff service door in the hallway outside which occasionally has a fair amount of traffic going in and out which you can hear. Overall the food was good - fresh and well prepared, but it was nothing exceptional. I would say top level of average. The dining rooms and buffet all suffered from too few staff so that service was below the standard you would expect. In term of the ship itself, it seemed to glide along but the décor is starting to show its age.

Very organized right from the beginning.  Transfer from the airport to the ship was done perfectly.  Our room (Neptune Suite) was very nice.  The advantage of the Concierge and Neptune Lounge made the suite perfect.

Four ports in Japan were all interesting and different.

First time to Alaska - Due to weather we could not get into Kodiak so we went to Juneau instead.  They were not fully prepared for a cruise ship as the first one scheduled was not for another week. In 48 hours however from the time we knew we could not get into Kodiak - shore excursions and stores were ready to receive us.  Alaska is a must do cruise.

Cutting corners from reduced Dining room staff, poor maintenance of the cabin, termination of port information and excessive gratuaties for poor service. Entertainment programs in main theaters and selection of movies.

The Volendam was very clean and had a very pleasant staff. We could want for nothing. The crew was awesome as usual and we were very pleased with the overall conditions of the ship. The only down was that they were varnishing one day on the rails and the smell got into the ship for the day, giving many people a headache.

The ship is nice but a bit outdated for today's expectations. Technology has passed this ship's current capabilities: example 1 - limited number of people accessing the internet at the same time; 2 - wifi access was spotty for android and smartphone use; 3 - who uses DVDs to watch movies? The movie selections were dated and not available because the DVD wasn't returned. Another issue was our first impression of the room was a torn pillow case and improperly installed curtains.

I had a big trouble with this ship, I don't know what was the problem, many rooms in 2 floor began to leak water, more and less more and less two unbelievable centimeters of water in my room, after that, the carpet got terribly stinky and was impossible to stay in the desk, when I thought they would give me something better or at least the same room I had got. I got disappointed when they gave me my room, actually the room was the same category, but many things in stateroom was broke as window covering and mirror. But this wasn't all, I had to carry my stuff because the crew didn't do it. when I went to complain at front desk, they just said that couldn't do anything. In my last day, they gave me 50 dollars by perturbation, some people just stayed in the same stateroom where the smelly were, unbelievable, in no time they care with the passengers.

summarizing I don't recommend this ship and Rolland america

I have been on Norwegian, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Holland I will not sail on any cruise line but Royal Caribbean from now on, this 7 day cruise cost a lot more than the 13 day cruise we took from Hawaii last year and was not worth it, I Love Alaska and will return just not on Holland!!!

The Captain was great. The boarding and disembarcation processes were excellent.

A ship is what its captain is.. I personally dislike the captain for ruining my Christmass Holidays so, I dont recomend a cruise with someone as uncaring as he was.

I liked the size of the ship because this was a cruise to see ports of call. The lines were short and there was ease of getting on and off the ship in a timely manner. The Indonesian crew were so kind and really worked hard to please passengers.

We didn't see whales up close. There were some sea lions. But the entertainment was fun.

Very good maintenance. Crew and service employees affable and helpful. Food in dinning room and in-room service very good. Did not like the Lido with all its crowds and confusion.

The cruise was enjoyable because we could mix with people from many different countries. Wpould have preferred not to sit alone at dinner.

Excellent on every level!
