The Volendam had very few activities compared to other HAL cruises. In particular they had only a few educational lectures on Brazil and the Amazon. The excursion department was the worst of any HAL cruises. The selection of excursions was rather poor and three that I choose were cancelled at the last minute. The Gym was good and the cruise director Ian gave great presentations.

Unfortunately the Amazon cruise was underwhelming. We ran aground and missed two ports. Manaus and Belem are large, dirty cities. The excursions were disappointing and we saw few animals and virtually nothing about the Amazon rainforest.
