Expectation on Emerald Not Meet by Tiger69

All our hotel stays were exceptional. Shore excursions, except for Flying Tiger Museum, were inspirational. We signed up for the Pre and Post Additions and they were a great addition to our trip. The people we meet were all welcoming and went the extra mile to help us make many memories. My favorite places were Lijiang, Xian, Shanghai, and Beijing. Can not recommend the Emerald as a Luxury Ship.

Definitely worth the extensive time required to fly to China. The history, the scenery, the customs, the Viking experience provided many long lasting memories!

Great Trip to China by rcar11

The cruise on the Yangtze was a very nice cruise, although it wasn't until the third day on the ship that we actually started to see some fantastic views on the river. From there on in there were really pretty views from the river, including the Three Gorges and then the Goddess Stream. The tours during the cruising were all very interesting and when we weren't cruising through scenic areas, there were always great presentations on the ship by really knowledgeable staff to pique everyone's interest. This survey only asks about tours while on the ship but it's important to note that once the sailing portion of this trip was over we had several days where we stayed in some wonderful cities and in some beautiful hotels and did tours that were amazing (The Great Wall of China, The Terra Cotta Warriors, Tienanmen Square, The Forbidden City, etc). All of those things, combined with the cruise, made for a great trip.

American Airlines Vacations completed the package and positioned the sale as having upgrade seats in Business Class Available using miles for the upgrade with the inclusion of $1,400 in cash.  After checking with the airline to insure the Business Class Seats were available and could be upgraded as described we booked the cruise through American.  After waiting for a day for all the transaction parts o clear we called American to upgrade and the airline indicated no seats were available for upgrade even though none had been sold for either the outbound or return flights which were reserved and booked.....  they were the same flights we checked on the day before and received assurance from American the seats were upgradeable... can you say "BAIT AND SWITCH"!!!!

Be prepared for rainy and foggy weather -- in addition to China's pollution. We lucked out and Beijing had absolutely beautiful, albeit cold weather while we were there.

I wouldn't bother to purchase the most expensive room since you don't spend much, if any, time in your room except to change clothes or sleep. The rooms on this particular ship are a good size and are very comfortable so use the money saved on something else. This was a really nice ship!
