Be prepared for rainy and foggy weather -- in addition to China's pollution. We lucked out and Beijing had absolutely beautiful, albeit cold weather while we were there.

The boat was very comfortable, but do not expect a "cruise ship" experience. This is a standard river boat. China also has some hot and muggy weather, along with smog in their big cities. We found that this time of the year it is not bad, and we also had rain only one day.

I wouldn't bother to purchase the most expensive room since you don't spend much, if any, time in your room except to change clothes or sleep. The rooms on this particular ship are a good size and are very comfortable so use the money saved on something else. This was a really nice ship!

Choose your cabin wisely. Although all cabins have veranda's, some are located too close to the engine, the anchor, etc and the noise created sleeping issues for some guests. Our friend's opted for Cabin 202 and had almost zero balcony. Cabin #439 was just right in location, size, convenience to staircases etc.

I was happy that we had the Beijing to Shanghai route rather than the opposite. It was great to see the exciting things right away, then rest on the cruise and have a relaxed time before Shanghai. If possible, arrive a day or two early to adjust to time zone. It is crazy hot/humid/rainy in summer.

...this is a very active, busy tour and there is lots of walking and star climbing...our weather was so hot and humid which exaggerated the required effort!

Shanghai and Beijing smog and pollution were worse than expected and made both my wife and I ill with some form of reaction like bronchitis. Was surprised how bad smog and air polluiton were throughout the trip. didn't see the sun till late in the trip and it was bright red from the polution.
