This was an unbelievable cruise. The Norway fjords are so much more impressive than you can imagine. We were able to see the fjords from mountains, and see mountains rising up from the fjords. The highlights were the Flaam railroad, the bus tour up two different mountains at Geiranger, and the boat tour up the fjord from Alesund.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Technically we did not have a traditional embarkation for this cruise as it was the back half of Back-to-back cruises. My rating is based on our experience reboarding the ship after our excursion to Stonehenge and Salisbury on the day between the two cruises. Our only previous experience with B2B cruises was the previous year in the Mediterranean. Our 21-day round trip from Barcelona consisted of 7 days from Barcelona to Rome, 7 days from Rome to Athens, and 7 days from Athens to Barcelona. In Rome and Athens, as new passengers embarked, we left and returned very much like any other port, so we were surprised when we had to walk all the way through the terminal much like on embarkation day two weeks earlier. We did not have lines to make our way through, but still it was a lot of unnecessary walking, including up and down stairs. It seems like this could be much improved.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We loved Sky Princess. We had previously been on Enchanted a couple of times, including 21 days in the Mediterranean, and were once on Royal Princess several years ago. We were happy with our cabin location on Lido deck. It was very convenient to food and drink areas.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
I did not take part in many organized activities. We did observe some trivia and game shows. There did seem to be plenty of options, but I preferred to relax.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We enjoyed all the production shows, and many of the other entrainers. A few of the many comedians were not particularly funny, but others were great. There were other good entertainers as well.
Children's Programs
We were not traveling with any children.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service in restaurants and buffet were great. Our room steward was great. Miguel was very experienced having started his career with Princess 29 years previous, on the original Love Boat (Pacific Princess). He was always available, and easy to find, and always willing to help.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship seemed to be in good condition. This ship may be better suited for warmer climates, but even in the cool/cold weather in Norway there is plenty of good space to enjoy.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Everything in the room seemed to work well. We did not some issues with trying to get photos of mountains and waterfalls from the balcony because the floor above extends out past our balcony.
We took a Princess excursion to Stonehenge and Salisbury. The cathedral in Salisbury was really the highlight, even without getting inside. I would love to go back some time with more time.
The Flaam Railroad was fantastic. The stop at the waterfall halfway up was great. The waffles at the hotel at the top made for a nice snack, and the views from the hotel were fantastic.
The views from the mountains was unbelievable. This was the highlight of the cruise. We got views of the Fjord and the ship from two sides (two different mountains.
We enjoyed a city tour that included a fair amount of time at the Cathedral. We explored the cathedral inside and out, and got the opportunity to talk with a member of the staff about the history, and current use of the cathedral. We then stopped for a view from high above the city.
Hello shipmates,
I will be on sky going to Norway from Southampton in April.
You said in Olden that you wished to have taken the Loen sky lift.
Did the sky port in Loen or Olden ? Did you stop at Haugesund ? What was it like ?
Thanks .
