Third Alaska cruise...1st time on Regent and impressive. by deanejones

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Alaska

Over all very positive. One suggestion I have is to have "grab bars" in the bathrooms. Though I am not handicapped, I do have a chronic back issue and sometimes lifting myself from the toilet was difficult and hard. The toilets are lower than in my home, so that made it a little more trying at times! Excellent assist bars in the shower/tub though.

Dream Alaska Cruise/as perfect as one could hope for. by cressnaples

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Alaska

Shore excursions are very interesting; book early for your choices. We had sailed on other cruise lines but any future cruises will always be with Regent as the service, food and ambience cannot be compared to others. Even the fellow passengers were the nicest and varied group. We do wish we had more time in some of the ports as the shore excursions run 3 to 5 hours and eat up a lot of shore time usually limiting you to one excursion per day/ would have preferred to be able to do two.

Cruise from hell--a rip off by ViscaBarca

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Transatlantic

We were shocked and disappointed by this cruise. Apparently, from what returning passengers told us, Regent is really going downhill. We learned as we were on our way to the cruise that the Mariner had just been in dry dock. They did not finish the dry dock work before we boarded. We believe it was irresponsible of Regent to board passengers on a ship with so many problems. Regent should have notified passengers of these conditions before the cruise. Instead, we had to endure many many problems throughout what was supposed to be an "exclusive luxury experience". We could never really even relax. In addition to problems sited above, many of the ship's facilities like elevators and the so-called free wifi often were out of service. Most of the staff seemed new and unprepared. Most seriously, we were exposed frequently to toxic chemicals and bacteria, including dirty water in our suite's sink, a leak on the bathroom floor, and a shower that frequently gurgled and didn't drain properly. There were strong chemical smells from work being undertaken near us, and dust from sanding of painted surfaces in passenger areas. This went way beyond normal ship maintenance undertaken during an Atlantic crossing. The nicest part of the cruise was the other passengers who were very friendly and commiserated with each other as most were also encountering problems including scalding hot showers and black mold on shower curtains. Our suite butler and stewards tried really hard to address the many problems. But we will never sail on Regent or any other Norwegian-owned cruise line again. We both ended up with serious health problems from conditions on this cruise. We both needed urgent medical care as soon as we arrived home. One of us got a severe bacterial eye infection, and we both developed respiratory problems probably due to exposures to substances and fumes on the ship. We have written about these problems in detail to the CEO of Regent Seven Seas but so far there has been no response.

VERY disappointed with diminished level of service and cutting corners since last journey on the Mariner. Many fellow passengers also noted same.

Not ever again on regent by slakeyco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

poor overall rating. Believe ship needs better management and direction for crew. Too many third world ports. Compass Rose was best food and service. French one was terrible.

Good but not perfect... by mikesale

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: South America

Glad we took the cruise but not interested in returning to many places visited. Scheduled to take the ship again on a transatlantic trip from Barcelona. It will be interesting to see what has changed.

Fall Colors! by meno38171756

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

This cruise had more elderly, wheelchair, walker or cane bound than we've ever seen. No one was out and about after 9pm. The crew was great! The ship is overdue for an upgrade, which it's scheduled for.

Nice but missing something... by douglas85138449

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Alaska

Didn't enjoy the ship as much as I hoped. The ships crew was basically there and dutifully fulfilled every request, but wasn't happy about doing it. This was especially true of the Destinations desk. Had one of the desk people complain about the "drunk" women who was upset she missed her tour because it want completely documented on the schedule. I didn't think she was drunk, nor unreasonable.

First Time Cruiser by jmartin13095568

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Alaska

Overall, a good experience for a first time cruiser. Staff and service was terrific.

Was not looking for much in the way of distraction, but it did seem that the entertainment such as Burt Bacharach tribute, and other such entertainment was a little dated. A little behind the times. Food quality overall was decent. House keeping good. Ship seems to need an update. I thought prior to departure that I had read that the ship went through a recent renovation. Not the case.

Shore excursion operators would very good with enthusiastic guides.

STUCK AT AIRPORT by msbeth1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: South America

The trip was fine until the day we departed.  We got to the airport around 9am and found out we needed a Visa for our connecting flight in Brazil. Neither Regent or you advised us ahead of time.  I tried to buy tickets for a direct flight but it was leaving the next day at a cost of $1500 per person.

So we decided to go back to the ship and get things sorted out.  3 hours later we got back to the ship around 12.  The executive concierge, William Gomez, said 30 minutes to sort it out.  5 hours later we finally had arrangements for a direct flight to Miami the next day.  It was finalized about an hour before the ship was departing!  We were transported to a hotel 30 minutes from the airport when we could've stayed at the Wyndham next to the airport.

The next morning (4:30am) we were told a taxi wasn't available.  We had to fight with a Regent rep, who was taking other Regent passengers to the airport, to give us a ride.  He finally agreed.

When we got there we realized our tickets were not business class but economy.  We squeezed into our seats (me in the middle) for a 5 1/2 hour flight.  It was a nightmare!!!

We are requesting reimbursement for our business class tickets and compensation for the undue stress we had to endure.  I was seriously concerned about a nervous breakdown.

Please get back to me ASAP.

The Amazon and Beyond by madi59269

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: South America

The excellent staff and food along with the amazing sites.  We were non-plussed in our 1st week compared to our previous and Oceania and Paul Gaugin Cruises, so we provided feedback.  There was an immediate change in the personal service---particularly Yoseph, Miodraga, and Victoria.   Anything we asked for was provided.  Personally, the trip was too long for us.  We will go back to the 10-18 day trips.

The Best Cruiselne by srhrrsn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: North America

Well I think I found the best of the best cruise line.

I guess you can say I've been on them all and there competitors.

This was our first Regent and it can't get any better.

We loved it so much that half way through our cruise we booked an Australia

Cruise.

From the minute you walked on until you left you were treated like the most important person on the ship.

The food, entertainment ,tours were all beyond our expectations.

We won't be trying another line anymore.

Superb ship, food, service and crew. by natew3245

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Cabin service, attention to ship detail, personal comfort and food was excellent. For us the downside was the time at sea as compared to time in port and on tours. Ports were typically 8 to 10 hours. While acceptable for Guatemala,  Costa Rica and Nicaragua it was not long enough for Cartagena, Columbia or even Charleston, SC.

Cruise to Alaska by jkm18677310

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Favorites -

- Hubbard Glacier and excursions

-  Seven Seas Mariner

- Making new friends

- Absence of any ship's photographer being in your face and trying to sell overpriced photos

- Singing and dancing shows

- Overall logistics and attention to detail

Not so much -

- Long checkin (1+ hours standing in line)

- Inconsistent service in Compass Rose and bars

- Spotty internet and favoring of prior Regent travelers

Very Disappointing by mbozanne

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Seven Seas Mariner / Destination: Alaska

The staff was efficient and delightful.  The food was poor to moderate unless you knew what to order that was fresh and tasty.  The disembarkation was a horror.  Arriving in Vancouver at 7AM and put on a tour bus for 3 hours and then dumped at the airport at 4P for a 10PM flight back to New York City.  Unacceptable.Angry
