VERY disappointed with diminished level of service and cutting corners since last journey on the Mariner. Many fellow passengers also noted same.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Buenos Aires terminal is nice, and customs/immigration very efficient. We had to bus out to the ship, and Regent made everyone stand in the hot sun without any shade while the ship checked us in ( I think Argentine govt was there, too). But there were about 2-3 bus loads full of people in the hot sun, and they provided no shade or covers. Not good for the older folks, as it was a really hot day.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Uninspired. I've had better on cheaper ships. And, really annoying, but they did not change the menus every day, as they do on most ships. We were on this ship about 7-8 years ago when food and variety were much better
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The guest lecturer, Terry Breen was quite good. But otherwise, there was not much going on.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
The worst singers and dancers I've ever seen on a cruise. Musicians were pros, but singers and dancers were terrible.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Spotty. Some of the staff were extremely nice and accommodating. Jimmy in the food service was one of the nicest guys. Others seemed unhappy and a few even grumbled about their jobs.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Good job here. But the ship is old and tired and it is time to refurbish. But the layout is good.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
A little worn out, but the functionality was great. In room entertainment and TV were not good. Lost satellite connections for movies several times ( should not happen as there should have been a server on board to play the on-demand movies). Where do I get to review the internet service? It was horribly slow, and NO VIDEO or other high bandwidth service at all.
Ship tip
For that amount of money, find another ship with more happening on board and better tours offered. Not a big party animal, but better quality of entertainment, food and service would have been nice.
Good trip out to the gaucho farm, but not much to do out there. Quick horse show, we sat around on benches for about an hour, ( I later saw some people getting wagon rides), then we ate barbeque.
Sao Paulo fascinating, except that it really was NOT on the itinerary. WE HAD TO PAY EXTRA FOR THE TRIP INTO SAO PAULO. Dishonest to list this as a port. The port (and the included tours) were Santos.
The jeep tour through Tijuca forest was amazing.
Terrible tour: Rio Sights and Sounds. We just drove around in traffic. Hardly hit any of the Rio highlights. And the tour guide just griped about everything that was wrong with Brazil.
