Review summary

This was our first cruise with Regent Seven Seas and overall we were fairly happy with the ship and the staff. We met some wonderful passengers and also encountered some very rude passengers, but that probably happens wherever you go. Having sailed with Silversea previously we had high expectations for RSS. Our feeling is that RSS did not quite meet all of our expectations.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We were one of the lucky few to have no issues. Many people waited for over 2 hours after embarkation started to get onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room, buffets and Prime 7 were excellent, however Chartreuse was incredibly disappointing. Service was terrible and food was well below standard. I was also served room temperature champagne and soft drink on several occasions at varying bars on the ship.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The ship for it's size offers limited activities. We did not partake in any of the activities as they were not activities that we enjoy.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The stage shows were at 9:30pm and because of restaurant reservations we missed quite a few of the shows.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
We had a mixed experience. Waiters were excellent. Our room stewards kept the room clean but we had issues with them replenishing the toiletries and our drink requirements. At one stage they took an open bottle of champagne out of the refrigerator and left it on the bench. The bottle was three quarters full and had to be thrown out.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All common areas were kept clean but the rest rooms were often found to be in an unsatisfactory condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our only disappointment was that we had a cabin with a bath and my husband (6ft 2ins) could not stand up without hitting his head on the ceiling.

Ship tip

On the first day explain to the room stewards your exact drink requirements to be stocked in the refridgerator. Make sure that you have been supplied with bath robes and umbrella as they may charge you if they are not in the room when you disembark.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
We were only there for embarkation and disembarkation.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

4 out of 5
Most of the sailing through the inside passage was during the night.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
We did the Alaskan Lodge and Seafeast excursion which was most enjoyable. We then had a chance to walk around town.

Sitka, Alaska

4 out of 5
We were able to do two excusions at this port, the Historic Sitka and Nature walk and the Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest excursion. Both excusions were thoroughly enjoyable.

Skagway, Alaska

3 out of 5
We did the White Pass Railing and City tour and unfortunately due to miscommunication with the tour operator we were sent on the bus for the city tour, only to be turned around and taken back to the station to go on the railway tour. This meant that half an hour was lost, resulting in a reduced tour time.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

4 out of 5
The ship did not go very close to the glacier. We saw another ship go much closer and on completion of our cruise whilst sitting at YVR we spoke to passengers from Celebrity Eclipse who informed us they were close enough to hear and see the calving of the glacier. We felt very disappointed that we did not get this experience.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
We did the Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Quest excusrion. We went for a cruise in search of whales first and this did not disappoint us. We enjoyed our time at the Mendenhall Glacier but as we had an early all aboard (1.30pm) we did not have enough time to fully appreciate the glacier or have any time to walk around what looked like a lovely town centre.

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

1 out of 5
We arrived at Prince Rupert at 1pm and departed at 10pm - what a waste of time in a port that offers very little. We felt that we should have been given more time in Juneau instead. We did a Prince Rupert City Highlights and Museum excursion which was just a drive around town followed by entry to the museum. Was supposed to be a 2 hour tour but only lasted 1 hour 20mins.

Cruise Outside Passage, Alaska Did not visit port

Due to rough weather the captain took us back through the Inside Passage which we appreciated. This cost the cruiseline money as they had to bring onboard pilots.

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
We did the Victoria with Craigdarroch Castle excursion. We exjoyed the excursion but felt that we could have had more time at the castle. It was a rainy day so we returned to the ship after the excursion but there was plenty of time to explore Victoria if needed.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
No problems at all.
