My wife has tried for years to get me to go on a cruise but having made my living at sea it was a tough sell. I chose this cruise partly because I was familiar with several of the ports and some were on my wife’s wish list. Our kids are grown so “adults only” was a factor as well.
We traveled with 2 other couples, one booked a Rock Star cabin, and we were all very happy with the ship and ports.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
They had an issue with the system in Barcelona so everyone’s boarding times got backed up by an hour or so. Long lines that went nowhere. Once they got it fixed things moved along.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We enjoyed the food options. Only were able to dine in our favorite restaurant once but that is partly on us for not scheduling sooner. Still had plenty of good options and the restaurants that didn’t require reservations put out great food.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Pool is small but we knew that going in. Fitness center looked great but we didn’t use it. We only had 2 sea days so most of our time was spent visiting the ports.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We only saw 2 shows and they were good. The various musicians/bands that played were decent. The one acrobatic show we attended was very good. Our group spent the majority of our time at sea in the casino and even though we didn’t come out ahead the casino staff was amazing so that provided great experience for us.

Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Everyone was amazing. Period. Some stood out (casino staff, cabin stewards, several wait staff) but all we encountered were great.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Always being cleaned and maintained. Layout was easy to follow and convenient.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin stewards were great. Room was actually perfect. We had a lot of stuff and had no issues finding a place for everything without feeling crowded. I was very impressed. I spent 35 years as an officer on commercial vessels and can appreciate how important it is to have a comfortable room. Balcony was very nice and bed, seating was nice as well. Decent closet space and bathroom.
Ship tip
Plan your restaurant visits early. A couple times per restaurant is plenty though you might want to go to some more. Try the brunches at the Wake. Enjoy apps at the Dock. If you’re a gambler the casino crew for our trip was awesome.
The city is beautiful. Food was amazing. 2 other cruise ships were in port with us so the cable car was crowded on the way back. Otherwise plenty to do away from the crowds.
