Review summary

Overall, this was an enjoyable cruise. I absolutely loved Alaska and want to see more, more, more! The only complaints for the ship was that our bathroom smelled like urine.  It was clean, very clean but smelled. Our steward bleached it but the smell would not go away. I know other rooms did not have this issue and I've been on a previous cruise with Princess where it was not an issue. This time however, a different story. As for the ports, in Juneau, I highly recommend going to Twisted Fish Company and ordering their King Crab tacos. They have a cilantro & apple cider slaw, served with watermelon Pico de Gallo... So. Good. For excursions, we did the river rafting there and had a great time. My mom had booked the helicopter ride as it's on her bucket list but it was canceled due to weather. Unfortunately, that is the second time that has happened. If doing a helicopter ride, Skagway might be a better option. In Skagway, be prepared for a lot of wind! We did the train excursion and although it was great to see Alaska in all it's glory, the swaying/rocking of the train easily puts you in to a sleepy lull so bring caffeine! ;) Glacier Bay was simply stunning. Bring good binoculars so you can see any wildlife that might show up. For the last two ports, Ketchikan and Victoria, I felt there was not enough time at all. Ketchikan is so adorable, there is so much to see and we didn't even do an excursion. I would have preferred more time to explore but we had to be back on the ship by noon. In Victoria, we arrived at 7pm, couldn't get approval from Canada to get off the boat until almost 7:30 then had to be back on the boat by 11pm or so. Canada was celebrating 150 years of existence so there were celebrations and concerts going on. It was a gorgeous day and although I've been to the city before, this was without a doubt the best time I've had there so far. From the ship, you can walk about 10-15 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf then catch one of the water taxi's that will take you to different parts of downtown. I highly recommend taking it. Minus the smell and time limits, this was a fabulous starter cruise to Alaska. Can't wait to take another one with different ports.

Great cabin, except for the bathroom smell.

Ship tip

If you drink coffee/lattes, water, alcohol and/or soda, try to get the beverage package. We got a complimentary beverage package that included all of these drinks. It was well worth booking a trip where that was included! Each of those drinks has separate packages but try to get the all inclusive.
