Review summary

We had an amazing time because how can you not in Alaska? We are mid 40s and not Princess's demographic so some things were not our style but we still had tons of fun. Food was decent. But you go to Alaska for the ports and we had tons of time in each port which was a huge plus.

Embarkation

It took close to 2 hours to board the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We thought most of the food was decent to good. The best food was the pizza at Alfredo's, it was delicious. We ate in the Crown Grill and expected it to be a bit fancier. The scallop appetizer was very good and my husband liked his steak. I had the lobster tail and it was just ok. The buffet was good but very carb/beef/pork heavy. Pretty nice salad bar. The chicken taco and grilled cheese from the room service menu were pretty tasty.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Good fitness center, hot tubs. Too cold for the pool.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Overall, the entertainment was good. The band The Sound was our favorite but we wished they threw some modern songs in the mix. DJ Sakary was just awful. Terrible. The production shows were good, not great, and the Colors of the World is very outdated with their cultural appropriation ( wearing asian costumes and singing Cyndi Lauper) They had an excellent comedian one night and a mentalist/psychic show that was fun as well. The game shows were a lot of fun!

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Service was great and everyone was trying very hard. The medallion app has lot of issues, it took quite awhile to get drinks if you ordered them from the servers.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The Royal is a lovely ship. My only complaint is it's too bright in most of the bar and lounge areas. Everything was very clean. Bathrooms are not very clearly marked.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
No issues with our cabin, it was a tad bit smaller than we expected. Bedding is out of this world comfortable!

We weren't able to get very far into Endicott arm because of the ice so hard to rate this.

Great shops! We did a float plane excursion with Island Wings and it was incredible! Lunch at Annabelle's was good, best chowder I've ever had.
