Great customer service! by Poochismom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Not only was was our cruise beyond expectations, the shore excursions were magnificient. The staff all seemed to go above and beyond their required duties.

I use a walker and anytime I needed assistance, there was a staff member there to help, without me asking for help.

The food in the dining room and the Windjammer Buffet was extremely good (great variety) and the dining room staff was VERY attentive and so much fun!

Alaska Cruistour by lmuenks

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I enjoyed our cruisetour.  My wife and I traveled with our two boys ages 10 and 12.  Alaska was beatiful and so was the weather.  We booked a shore excursion through Royal Caribean in Keitchan.  We went zip lining and it was awesome.  Great staff and a lot of fun.  The waiters and room attendants on the ship were great!  I could have not asked for better service.  I was a little disappointed with the land section of our cruietour.  We were not given our itenerary until we dimembarked the ship therefore we could not book any excursions before we left.  I felt rushed at many of the stops.  We were not allowed to check into the hotel in Aleska until 4:00 and we had to leave at 10:00 the next morning.  There was a lot to explore there and we simply were not allowed the time to do it.  I felt like the tour guide and bus driver just killed time to get us to each new time for check in.  I would have much rathered getting to a town early, been allowed to explore and checked into our rooms later.  There was plenty to do at each stop.  I would rather wonder around a town or hike trails that sit on a bus all day.   I loved all the different cities that we got to see and we did a lot of fun things.

My Time Dining by aggiehancock

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The Radiance was clean, staff was friendly.

I tried for several months prior to the cruise to sign up for dining but had difficulty with their site. When I called a very nice person did help with reservations, she did mention that the site was indeed having problems. However by that time all dining times were late."My time dining" means dining when you want. That is not the case here. There was only The Cascades is their main dining room which was too small for the number of passengers. If you didn't get a reservation there, you had the upscale at an additional fee or the buffet.  Disappointing. The food was average in all except Rita's Crab Shack

Wonderful Cruise by rewellsw1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We had a great time on the cruise. Our service persons, steward and dinning room servers went beyond our expectations and deserve  A-plus grade. The dinning room supervisor could not be nicer or accomodating.  She went far beyond all expectation. I was dissapointed with the service at the Windjamer dinning room and I will explain why. The noice from the bouncing basket balls from the youth area above the dinning room was unbarrable. Something needs to be done about this noise.  The day before  the end of the cruise no lemmonade was available because the staff said that it had run out although it was available in the main dinning room. Labeling of items being served were mis-labeled. Breakfast pancakes, waffles, scrambeled eggs were cold. A better quality of pastries could be ordered. Some were stale and unappitizing.

I would recomend tis cruise and would do it again. The general staff were great.

Happy

Experience of a Lifetime by dkdern

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Check off one on our Bucket List!  This cruise was amazing!  The service of the staff was exceptional, the entertainment, both in the lounge areas as well as the acts/shows in the Aurora Theater were great, (Aurora shows had entertainers that headlined in Las Vegas!), and the scenery is not to be missed.  We enjoyed Whale/mammal excursions in Juneau and Icy Point Strait that exceeded our expectations.  We also extended our stay in Vancouver and spent 2 days exploring the city~Loved it!! Would love to return one day with our extended family:)

For the Love of the SEA and the Lore of the land in ultimite Comfort cruise Royal Caribbean and have a GOOD time. by CarolHackenberg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Beautiful scenery, lots of water, floating ice, quint towns, cute puppies, fantastic flights, leaping whales, soaring eagles are just the TIP of the iceburg in cruising with Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas in Alaska.  The ship itself was large, beautiful, clean, well equip, tasteful menues, dedicated personal, dependable captain, and a world into it's self.  I would recommend this cruise for anyone looking for an Alaskan adventure.  I'm setting my compass NORTH.

Radiance of the Seas family review by barbaraEasley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was beautiful! Diningroom food was good. Buffet good was ok - breakfast at buffet was not good. Ate most breakfasts in diningroom. Ports of Call were good. Room steward, Albert, and diningroom staff were excellent. My 6yr old daughter loved Raphael in the diningroom. The oceanview cabin was small but surprisingly comfortable and we could unpack and store all our clothes for 4 and luggage easily. Wouldn't get balcony room for cool and rainy most of time so lots of people stated they didn't use them much. Children's program was limited and seemed to be closed alot of the time. Would be open for few hours then closed so difficult to watch movie or do anything with husband for had to go get kids. Both my children didn't enjoy childrens program esp when compared to last cruise which was a disney. Last day at sea had almost nothing to do-- movie theater was full for all the showings. Also entertainment was very disappointing--only two song/dance nights and all the rest were standup comedians. I like comedy but 5 nights out of 7 was alot esp for the children who didn't get most of the jokes.  The entertainment was much better on disney and carnival. Also, Royal Caribbean pushed the art sales hard--it was almost constant and that seemed to be one of the major forms of entertainment on the ship. The photo people were also constantly trying to take your picture with various characters and if you tried to take pictures with your own camera they were very hostile and wouldn't pose with the children. The ridiculous charge of 23$ per picture was abit much too.  I did enjoy the Alaska cruise but would probably sail Disney or Carnival next time. I was disappointed in Royal Caribbean for families but am sure it would be ok for seniors or couples without children. Of course, my impression might have been different if not Alaska cruise for Caribbean may have had more family activities.

PS We did enjoy the climbing wall and my son (10)enjoyed the basketball courts

Very well run ship---and Alaska to boot! by georgemgera

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The Radiance is a very well run ship---and of course,  everybody loves the Alaska cruise.     The employees are really motivated and managed by the officers of the ship.    Amazing bit of seamanship getting the high seas ship through the tighter passes of the Inside Passage.  Very good food.  Of course, like on most cruises,  there are negative points--- like very expensive excursions.   But overall,  I would take this ship with her Captain anywhere it sails.  The positive involvement of the officers with the guests is tops.  Very clean ship.   Excellent information available about the upcoming ports.   Entertainment only fair on most nights.

Alaska is GREAT! by haywoman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

First time on Royal Carribean and have heard so many great things about their ships.....was not over impressed at all-there was an odor in our bathroom and our friends next to us-they came and addressed the issue quickly however, it came back-we also smelled this odor at other places in the ship.  I think must be in the pipes.  We also learned many other cruises had the same odor in their rooms.   I was not so impressed with the photography on the ship (the photographers were wonderful!!!)-on other cruises there were many many locations on the ship with great photo opts like the grandpiano with a rose and drink-one with a loevely pillar and colored backgrounds to name   just a few on Carnival but only had the same few each night on this ship noooo imagination.  THE FOOD WAS GREAT!!!   Also, took me 3 times to the front desk and several phone calls to get my tickets to Mystery Night but finally did get those.  Every ship has problems and I can say they did try very hard to address our issues.

radiance may 30 by jnlhunt7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Overall very good. Food quality above average. dining experience in general was satisfactory except the servers were extremely difficult to understand ( ?Indian?).  lots of repeating required or we  (group of 20 ) just smiled and went w/ whatever we could make out of it.  enertainment would be rated a 3 out of 5.  actually thought it would be more top notch......some of the singers were just off and one night we  couldn't folllow the theme - about 2 lovers in differnent parts of the earth. costume and sets excellent. Music great - but too loud if you had a stateroom off the centrum like we did. won't do that again.

hiking trip #KE88 was a total ripoff.... it was really just a $25 dollar tour we were charged $99 for- would love a reimbursement for that if possible!!

Excellent Cruise by fossummm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

It was a supurb cruise.  Loved it.  Well run.  Great.  They got into ports early, bofore the other ships, so we were ahead of many cdruise crowds.  The rooms were always clean.  The crew went out of their ways to make our trip memorable from the Captain to the cabin staff.  The Dining staff was amazing.  They were so friendly and efficient.  Really knew their business.  The My Time Dining gave us flecability and a great dining experience every night.

Lack of entertainment by bdhuff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The entertainment was not great on this cruise and not many fun activities. Most were held in the Atriom where there wasn't enough room for people. The food was very good and service great. Not our best cruise.

2nd Alaskan Cruise by jbox3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The Radiance of the Seas was fine. We were somewhat disappointed in the dining experience. Room steward was awesome but the wait staff just did not seem as engaged as our previous cruise (different cruise line). Food was good, but not great. A few main dining dishes were pretty good, but for the most part, nothing really stood out. Chose the Windjammer buffet several times over the Cascades.  Bingo games at $48 bucks were way over priced. Really, our cruise in 2011 on a Princess cruise was a better experience. Not that we are disappointed, just expected something different, more maybe. We would sail RC again, but not to Alaska.

Awesome by ron1082

Royal Caribbean is THE best cruise line. Radiance of the Seas raised the bar for other cruise ships of its size. The enclosed pool area was quite impressive. We had the best cruise ever. Can't wait till our next cruse!

Great time!!! by kmcodykid

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a long planned retirement cruise and we had a really great time!  Enjoyed all of the ports and while it was cool as we chose to go in May, the upside was that most of the ports were not as crowded :)  Loved our balcony room, the food, and all the wonderful scenery...

Sawyer Glacier Cruise Beautiful Scenery Horrible Process Customer Service Lacking by pd116

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Vancouver pier was absolutely HORRIBLE to try to get through and onto the ship. It took 3 hrs!! Nothing to eat and only water to drink while waiting. NOBODY explained or appologized for the delay or inconvenience. R/C did the muster drill while at least 300 of us were still waiting to board. When we went throught the boarding process w/RC, they neglected to get our credit card set up, even though we did the pre online boarding. It took 2 more times at the guest services to get it right. The ports were charming and the scenery was beautiful. We saw alot of wildlife. I would definitely recommend a balcony room for this itinerary. We have cruised 10 times with RC and this was the first time with so many mixups. I dont know if the Canadians are to blame or just the people doing this cruise but certainly there needs to be some review by RC, customs, the Canadians or something.

Nice experience by Mary29

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Hawaii

This cruise was a nice experience but would only recommend if you like being on the open sea for 5 or more days. It did become a little difficult by the 5th day. The food selections were very nice, staff extremely helpful, considerate, and friendly and the entertainment pretty good for the size of this ship. We had an inside cabin which we loved but it was very noisy. We could understand the ship noise from the walls as the ship moved but we could hear the people in the next cabin coughing in the morning and their TV late at night. That was not a very pleasant experience. The captain on this ship was very personable and seemed sincere when speaking to you. He gave you the sense that he enjoyed his appointment as captain and went out of his way to say hello to everyone as he passed by in the hallways. One suggestion was to have more telephones available to contact your loved ones in their stateroom. I had difficulty finding phones to place calls. Another suggestion is to have some type of communication device available maybe like a two way radio if you should get separated from your party and need to meet them somewhere. This ship was not too bad but the larger ones it's almost impossible to meet up again if you should get separated. All in all, the Islands of Hawaii had nice stops and we enjoyed it very much.

loved this cruise by DianaW3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was my 2nd cruise to Alaska as I gifted a cruise to my parent to their 50th anniviersary and my Aunt and Uncle also took this cruise with us such a good time. There was so many actives for all easy to get around, maybe another bank of elevators would be nice. People with young babbies should stay at home, or adult only cruise would be nice. Otherwise overall wonderful trip

The Walking Dead by schenard

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Radiance of the Seas is a beautiful cruise ship and the staff and crew were wonderful. They did everything to make the cruise a memorable experience. I always heard that Alaska cruises consisted mostly of an elderly clientele but this was ridiculous. Most of the passengers were angry, rude and completely oblivious to anyone else but themselves. I ran into numerous passengers with severe dementia, some would scream at staff for no reason, others would just push fellow passengers out of their way to get a better place in line. I asked my cabin steward about the anger I was experiencing among these elderly passengers and he told me it has been getting worse over the last few years. Passenger rudeness and extreme selfishness is now a serious problem for the cruise lines. I experienced it first hand.
