Review summary

We purchased the KEY, which was pretty much nonexistent on this cruise with the exception of VOOM. No chops lunch, no breakfast on last day, basically no specials at all. Would not recommend KEY for this type of cruise or size of ship.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
MDR food was very good, but not extraordinary as other cruises have been. Had some seating changes which has never happened before on a cruise. Samba was very good. First time visitor. Hot Dog stand was great Windjammer selection was ok. Wish there was a Sorento's pizza.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Need more hot tubs and/or early morning hours for those that would like to take a hot tub to loosen up prior to an excursion.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Saw two of the shows in the Aurora theater. They were ok. The bands in the Centurium were very good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room steward - Leila (sp) was excellent! In and out, kept us in clean towels and the room tidy. Bartending staff: Craig in Schooner, Viraj and Kevin in Solarium and Randy are all fantastic. They really know how to take care of their guests!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was clean. Worn in areas, but it is a smaller, older ship. Overall it is a great ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Best mattress and pillows I have had on a cruise ship. Cabin was clean. Loved the bump out balcony. Struggled with the shower curtain. Wish the cabins had more outlets and updated outlets for USB ports. Cabins are small and trying to plug everything in at the small desk area is a struggle.

Ship tip

Enjoy yourself, you are on vacation!

Ketchikan, Alaska

Even with our excursion being canceled we had a great time walking the port.

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
Taste of Sitka excursion was very good. The port is easily walkable. Very enjoyable. Wish we had more time there.

Juneau, Alaska

Excursion: Mendenhall Glacier and Salmon Bake. Excursion was good. Could have had more time at Mendenhall. Did not spend much time in town even though we were docked there into the evening.

Skagway, Alaska

3 out of 5
Did the Best of Skagway railway, gold and historic saloon tour. The lunch was not as advertised. No BBQ ribs or bbq chicken. Would have taken a different tour if we had known it was going to be another salmon bake. The train was very good, could have skipped the Red Onion tour. Only day it rained, but had a good time. Disappointed about the lunch.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Had fabulous weather!! Captain was able to get us very close to the glacier. Did not due the excursion.

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

4 out of 5
Did not actually visit the town. Did the boat excursion around Kenai peninsula and the coach tour to anchorage. It was a very nice sunny day so the excursion ended up being fantastic.

@PaulzyJC The Key is an extra-fee program from Royal Caribbean that gives cruisers a host of perks, such as priority boarding and debarkation, reserved seating at shows, special access to onboard attractions and more.

What's KEY? (Anyone?)

Sounds like a decent trip that could have used a bit more research. Although the meal swap is a bit iffy.
