Review summary

Nice cruise. Glad we did land tour first. I would recommend planning your own land tour as opposed to doing the RCL land tour. It seemed very rushed at times, lots of time on a bus. Would have enjoyed an extra day Denali National Park.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Fastest embarkation ever. Was off the bus and on the ship in less than 15 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining was excellent. Food was good and our waiters went above and beyond. Did not try the specialty restaurants. Buffett was good. Did not care for the layout of the buffet on Radiance. At breakfast, the scrambled eggs were very runny. I had omelets 2 days. The first day, was very good. Second time it was rubbery. Ate buffet on first formal night and it was “Indian” night. Smell of curry was overwhelming, and not a lot of American to choose from.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the pool tables! When you could get one to play. There are only 2, so usually had to wait a while to play. Did not use the pools, but solarium was quite warm walking through. Did not use fitness center.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Singers and dancers were very good. Usual broadway type performance. Comedian was ok. The magician was very funny and quite good. Very entertaining.

Children's Programs

Did not have kids with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward was Senan from the Philippines. He was excellent and did a great job of keeping the room clean and tidy. Our waiter and assistant waiter as well as the head waiter were all from the Philippines. We enjoyed having them teach us a new saying or words in their native language. Lots from the Philippines on this ship. Sophie the activities director and cruisin Susan the cruise director were excellent. Very interactive with the guests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean. Does need some updating. The Centrum is way too small for the activities that go on there. We are used to the voyager class ships and the layout took a few days to get used to. The elevators around the centrum area are always so busy. We would just walk to elevators at the front. Much easier to get an elevator. There was a very musty smell on deck 4 walking from the front elevators on the starboard side to the centrum area. The ship was kept very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Nice size. Balcony was right on the beginning of the hump. We enjoyed using our balcony for Alaska. Spent a lot of time viewing the scenery go by. Will opt for port side next time for Alaska.

Ship tip

Get a balcony for Alaska. We were on starboard side and would probably get port side if we do Alaska again.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Did not do an excursion. Only boarded ship.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

Amazing!! Absolutely beautiful. Did not see any wildlife which was a little disappointing. Also no calving that day, but it was spectacular.

Juneau, Alaska

Did whale watching and Mendenhall glacier. Was disappointed in whale watching. Only saw one whale. Was guaranteed to see one or $100 back. Did see porpoises and sea lions also. Juneau is a nice clean town.

Skagway, Alaska

Loved Skagway. Nice little town with lots of shops. Did the Klondike highway and Liarsville gold panning. The drive up the highway was excellent. Lots of photo stops and beautiful scenery. The gold panning was not worth the time or money. They give you pans with the dirt and gold already in it and you wash away the dirt to reveal the gold. Was hokey in my opinion. We did get served lunch which consisted of salmon, chicken, beans, coleslaw, salad and cake. You can purchase soft drinks, beer or bottled water extra. Not worth the $109 per person in my opinion. My hubby really wanted to do this and he was highly disappointed.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

No excursion here. Nice little clean port. Shopping here was very expensive. Wanted to do the zipline, but took 45 minutes to get to the top, and was pricey.

Ketchikan, Alaska

No excursion. Just walked Creek Street and shopped. Loved this town. Best shopping was Tongass Trading right off the dock. Best prices and great selection. You can pick up a coupon book for discount on certain items. Really wanted to do the float plane here, but with the recent crashes, decided not to. There are lots of planes in the air here!

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

Beautiful scenery! So glad we had balcony going through here.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia
