Review summary

This would have been a lovely experience because of the fun shore experiences (really loved the sled dogs!) and really good entertainment and speakers. But most of the food was very overcooked, inaccurately described, and generally disappointing. And most importantly, my medical experience was inappropriately handled, leaving me to suffer significant pain and discomfort for 72 hrs. And an utter failure to even try to refund my $125 promised to me.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Efficient once it began, but very unattractive and unappealing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Golden Lion Pub is quite good. The Bamboo and Coriander speciality food events were truly excellent. The Britannia and the Lido food was terribly overcooked, inaccurately described, and barely tolerable. Poolside grill inedible. Frontier speciality food was the worst I have had in many years. The Verandah was better than the Britannia, but that was easy, so not impressed at all.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not great, but not bad. Merely ok.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The ship shines here. Good speakers and good shows. Not 5 star, but you won’t be disappointed.

Children's Programs

Kids are grown. So came solo.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Room steward efficient, timely, thorough, and thoughtful. Ditto for the waiters, head waiter, and maitre’d. These folks try really hard. Can’t say enough good things about them! However, medical center mishandled my neck injury. No neck brace. No x-ray. Said it was a sprain. 72 hrs later at the ER back home, I find out I suffered a fractured C-2 vertebrae. Also, was promised a $125 refund of my last shore excursion which I was advised to cancel. Never received onboard, and multiple emails to Cunard Guest Relations resulted in no response.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful ship. Old World elegance and sophistication. Bested by its sister ship Queen Mary, but still lovely on its own.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Exactly what I expected. Clean and comfortable, and roomy enough for me. Attractive, but not splendid like a suite would be.

Ship tip

Cunard headquarters is very poor at handling any complaints. Don’t expect any respect.

Disembarkation

Very efficient. No difficulties other than the pain and discomfort of handling heavy suitcase with a fractured neck.
