Don’t get tied up with... by mcbrearty75

Sail date: /
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Don’t get tied up with the poor reviews on this boat. We had a great cruise last week, despite missing Nagoya due to typhoon Soulik. It is true the Chinese culture is very different from our own, but I can’t help feeling those leaving from Southampton feel the same about us Brits. On Quantum you get get plenty of space in the bars as the Chinese just don’t use them, the bionic rebots lay largely idle all week. The only downside being the offering of English speaking excursions which was very poor. I would recommend making your own arrangements. This boat has loads to do, we know having spent 5 of our 7 days at sea due to dodging typhoons. A great way to sea Shanghai and Japan whilst getting the quality of RCCL.

Roundtrip Shanghai by downonmyuppers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

The staff etc were brilliant but as this is a cruise from China we were a very small minority of Europeans there just before the F1 race. They take over and are rather noisy and pushy.

Loved the ship, and loved... by kristinlovseth

Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Loved the ship, and loved the crew. We did a 5 days cruise to Japan from Shanghai, since we were in a jr. Spa suite we had access priority boarding, and to Solarium, solarium bistro for breakfast and Coastal Kitchen for dinner. The food was great, and everybody was so friendly. I will gladly do another Asia cruise (in a suite)

Beautifull ship with a twist now that its sailing from China. Loved every minute on board. Only negative/positive side is that they restricted solarium for silver and gold cards only.

Quantum of the Seas is... by BaikG

Sail date: /
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Quantum of the Seas is indeed a lovely ship with new technology and features. However, it wasn't always a pleasant experience. I would have given the cruise 2 stars if I hadn't booked a Junior Suite. At embarkation, the crowds were huge as the terminal opened. There are porters outside and if you are either a foreigner, suite guest, or a member of Crown and Anchor, then you will be led straight to the front of the line for check in all the way to ship. Dining was also really bad in the main dining rooms and buffet, but the specialty restaurants, Café@Two70, Cafe Promenade, SeaPlex Dog House, and the suite-exclusive Coastal Kitchen (Carla is a great server) were amazing. Also note that the use of Solarium and breakfast at the Bistro is for suite guests only. I personally liked all the entertainment onboard, the FlowRider and climbing walls aren't very popular so you can get numerous turns. On the other hand, Xbox, ping pong, foosball, and bumper cars are always packed and some groups stay for hours at a time. The crowds didn't bother me very much until the penultimate night of the cruise when there was a fight between 2 Chinese men in the theatre and security took 30 minutes to show up. To recap, the cruise is very cheap, but you get what you pay for.

A beautiful ship. Shopping was... by kuankuen

Sail date: /
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

A beautiful ship. Shopping was a very pleasant experience where they provide price guarantee. I bought a watch during my October cruise and subsequently found that the watch was selling at a much lower price on a Princess cruise in December. I contacted Royal Caribbean customer service and the company kept its promise and refunded the price difference to me. Total satisfactory for my shopping experience. Standard Dinning was much inferior compared to other cruise ships unless you go to the specialty restaurants. The buffet food quality and selection in the Windjammer Marketplace was very very bad. The shows were good and enjoyable. Overall experience was good and I enjoyed this cruise. They really need to improve the dinning experience for the passengers.

Gorgeous ship. This alone made the cruise worthwhile. Food is excellent on board. Fortunately, had made dining reservations prior to embarking. Buffet outlets are chaotic during peak dining periods.RCL Shore tours were not impressive and poorly organised.

Beautiful Ship, but worst experience ever by DiamondMember42

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

absolutely beautiful ship.  Truly horrible experience with staff.  No one can help on any issue.  Even to get a replacement bar of soap, the room steward told me "to use less"...  Dining experience is awful.  Lines, lines and more lines - with reservations.  No ice, no dessert, missing waitresses who never come back...  Menu mostly the same no matter what restaurant you choose.  The headliner show Mama Mia had exited the ship prior to the sailing without a replacement.  RCCL cheated us out of our shipboard credits again (same thing happened last year on a South American cruise).  I showed an email confirmation of the perks to the desk personnel, they said they could not help.  They never helped on anything, and didn't correct the extra billings on the statement.  Life is too short for such nonsense.  After forty some cruises, and being a Diamond member for the past decade, it's goodbye to RCCL, even though the ship is so beautiful, but the staff are truly non-caring.  I'd rather stay home.  I'd rather give the ten grand to the zoo, at least those monkeys smile.

This was the maiden sail... by GregTan

Sail date: /
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

This was the maiden sail in Asia so was so welcome in some ports. The ship was beautiful, entertaining and of modern technology. Unfortunately our beautiful memory during the trip was overshadowed by poor management of embarkation and disembarkation. Understandable as this was the first time they handled such a big ship. Embarkation process very inefficient, spent almost 3 hours to be onboard and the disembarkation at Shanghai even worse, 5 hours to be in a taxi.

Far below expectation by PeterZopes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

The ship itself is beautiful but the service was horrible. Waiting time of 30 minutes in the restaurant without any action towards us. Only after calling the supervisor, she served us and it was good. No drinks offered around the pool, only self service at the bar with one bar tender only - you may imagine the waiting time. At 9 p.m. all 3 bars on deck 14 closed - at 30° C sitting outside was not possible due to films shown instead of serving drinks and offering music.

Most of the musicians seem to have left the ship latest in Singapore - very poor live music, nothing in the pool area.

To get a reservation in the Grand was impossible during 9 days. The official dress code here is formal, but most of the guest (mainly chinese) where sitting there in tank top and flip flops. In the other restaurants used tables have not been cleaned up so we were sitting surrounded by empty dirty tables.

And at the end, the disembarkation was a big mass - due to a delay in arrival we had to leave the ship all together resulting in 2 1/2 hours standing and slow walking into the terminal, which is not at all suitable for this size of ships. The reason for this disembarkation was a big party with RCL officials and chinese state officials to celebrate to arrival of the ship at its new home.

This was our first RCL experience……… after 5 trips with NCL. I think NCL did regain us as customer, because such a mass we never experienced there.

Great Ship by danielalonzo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It is amazing.  The ship was so great.  We had read reviews where people claimed that service was awful, crew members rude etc.  We found that the crew was great and very helpful.  We had to change and schedule show times.  No problem customer service was patient and helpful.  We had to change meal times again no problem.  We could not have had a nicer cabin steward.  For the most part sevice in the dining room was great.  It would have nice to have more variety in Windjamer.  But it was great to see the hand washing stations.  Two concerns  one  there is a dress code in Grande.  We thought that was nice, but it needs to be enforced.  Too many men allowed in not dressed appropriately.  They were given coats to wear but it seemed like a joke to them.  Some guys just wore the coats over their shoulder and then quickly took the coats off after they got inside.  That distracted from formal setting.  Two sometimes dining room waiters spent more time talking with each other rather than attending to the dinners.  At least one waiter was so hard to understand that I ended up with the wrong desert - no big problem but I really wanted a certain item.  On the other hand there were waiters who made you feel as if you were the most important people aboard.  We loved the classical music seminar.  I do wish that there was a way one could see some type of master schedule of shows, entertainment and movies so that one could better plan their day with meals etc.  But the most amazing thing was even though there so many people aboard the ship did not feel crowded.  We were always able to find places to relax. We also were impressed with the way we were able to get on  and off the ship.  Took very little time especially at the end of the cruise.  With so many things to do we ran out of time.  One thing that could help with the experience - on RC private island - it would have been nice if the beach sand could have been raked.  The broken shells were horrible. But over all the cruise was great.

Went on the ship for... by davest

Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Went on the ship for anniversary When it was here in America. Food was great the staff was fantastic the shows are great. I don't know why the retractable roof did not open once. And the weather was perfect the whole cruise and at every port and out to sea One thing that I did not like was at the pool people went out early in the morning put towels down and took off. This happened on the whole entire pool deck. I complained and nothing was done. This never happened on the Oasis or the allure.

Worst service ever by AshburnMike

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

For being a technologically strong ship, there were many bugs in their wifi system. My wife could not get her texting to work properly. We bought the 2 device package but could not get my wife's texting to work. The staff needs to be trained better. Many of them don't smile and can be very rude. The rides like Northstar and other activities always have schedule changes without any notifications. Also, if you are first timer to Quantum of the Seas or RCCL and have young kids, immediately have the guest services turn off the kids sea pass from charging to the room. The guest services staff says that is the default to allow kids the ability to charge anything non-alcoholic to charge to the room. My kids were able to charge up to $80 in arcades. The staff member suggested that I should supervise my kids better. Most of the staff are clueless about their ship's amenities and procedures and thus give conflicting informations. I also bought the ultimate drink package due to the fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh smoothies, etc. However, they seemed to run out of the ingredients often. This cruise was more expensive than others that I experienced, but the staff service is just not worth the price.

Good But Not For That Price by RubyM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I cruised about 15 cruises and last 8 were RC because I LOVE activities. I was WOWED from Allure - it was fantastic, but was a little disappointed from Quantum. First of all there to many people for that size of the ship. On Allure we didn't even feel how many people were on board.

1. Ship architecture was more modern style - nothing special ..something like IKEA style

2. Technology was way better than any other RC ships

3. Internet package was decent and we enjoyed having our phones throughout the cruise

4. Two70 is beautiful and shows are fantastic, HOWEVER their cafe needed more variety in food selection and quality. Their stuff looked tired and didn't bother to help you. They were very unpleasant.

5. Dynamic dining was not enjoyable: we had trouble getting reservations though their app, but their stuff was quick to help us with it. Sometimes we couldn't do it because of time conflict with other activities. Food was good, but nothing special. We had a dinner at paid restaurant and food quality + service was much better.

SILK had old fried noodles, when I ordered a salad IT HAD EYELASH IN IT - was awful.

AMERICAN GRILL: My husband ordered same as I did earlier(smoked mozzarella raviolis) and waiter told him that it had shrimp in it ?! When I corrected him, he went to verify with a chef, came back and apologized for his unawareness.

WINDJAMMER: food was the same all the time, just like Norwegian ships...was so boring and tasteless. The selection was poor and not like on Allure

SORRENTO PIZZA: pizzas were good and tasty, and you could make your own. The stuff looked grumpy at first sight, but after you spoke with them - you'd see smile on their faces and they were more friendly :")...just to tired. Cafe next to pizza had the same food and pastry selection always ...again very boring!

6. STARBUCKS: is not like real starbucks, we ordered 2 coffees with 2 shots of espresso and ended up returning it because it felt like drinking hot chocolate - TERRIBLE! Coffee was not good anywhere on the ship, it had burned aftertaste...although I felt the same way on Allure and other RC ships...but on Allure we got real starbucks.

7. BUMPER CARS: were fun, although we had to wait in line..

8. CIRCUS: was awesome

9. ROLLER SKATING: looked fun, I didn't go only because I saw some lady fall badly on her face...not sure what she broke but she was bleeding a lot. My son went earlier and he enjoyed it.

10. SEAPLEX: Is amazing, it was very convenient that you could play any time without worrying what time of the day is it and weather. They have everything for kids/teens/adults: game consoles, ping pong tables, air hockey, and all other activities mentioned above.  SeaPlex was my kids favorite place to hang out.

11. ROCK CLIMBING: Is as usual for RC ships

12. FLOW RIDER/BOOGIE BOARD: fantastic like always, we enjoyed it every time. The stuff were funny and cool...although for the first timers they didn't explain the techniques well. One Serbian guy( I think he is the stuff manager...most built and handsome:")) was really funny and cool, he was flirting with every good looking girl which was hilarious and entertaining. He was also part of the "Groove" disco dance show. Made the show funny and super enjoyable.

13. IFLY: it is worth to go on this ship just for that...SPEECHLESS, AMAZING, WONDERFUL. I LOVED it if you can't already see it. Again all instructors were fantastic especially mine(Nate). He made us feel comfortable, joked with kids, was very helpful and cool. I'd give him and Dave 10 out of 10. They were really amazing. OK, now the disappointing part - YOU CAN GO ONLY ONCE for free, next time RC changes $50 per person. It is OUTRAGEOUS especially the amount of money we paid for tickets. When we complained to customer service - they just nodded and did nothing about it. They gave us a very lame excuse that there are to many passengers that want to go so they have to accommodate everyone. Hm ...what about other activities then? So that was very disappointing.

14. CAST: Shows were amazing, cast fantastic, they all work very hard and it shows. All shows were fantastic

Overall we had a good experience, some spoilers like food quality, services, customer service, booking reservations, unfriendly servers, nickel and dimming on everything, limitations on activities, and few destinations - these are mostly what made me rate this ship as 3 stars.

Beyond DISAPPOINTED! by IMADreamaker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I purchased this cruise for my kids (12, 15) as a Christmas gift.

The beginning of this disaster started with an argument between two RC staff right in front of us at the check in desk stopping our check in process until they finished their argument.

We arrived on the ship to find broken decor, dirty and disheveled indoor and outdoor spaces and non existent/unfriendly crew that were not interested in being helpful and welcoming.

Food - bland and never changing

Food Service Staff - unfriendly, and busy discussing daily tasks with each other instead of serving passengers.  This included the management team who on several occasions interrupted myself and others being served to speak with their employees.

- Crew - unfriendly and not helpful with the exception of our room stewards.  Very accommodating even though we're "low maintenance" and didn't require much.  We never saw the Cruise Director.  Bar Tenders were not friendly and crabby.  I saw 1, yes that is 1 pool attendant serving drinks the entire 8 day cruise and she was busy checking her watch every minute to see when her shift was going to change.

Bar - Each and every time we (2 kids and myself - with drink packages) ordered something to drink, we were made to feel as if we were bothering the staff.   Not one smile in 8 days of cruising and each order was a "huge task" for the staff.  We were not ordering anything out of the ordinary.  In fact, when the kids were off exploring in the first few hours of boarding, i stopped in Michael's pub to order something to drink and perhaps an appetizer only to be overlooked several times sitting at the bar while the passengers next to me were being served their 3rd or 4th cocktail.  I finally was asked what I would like after about 30 minutes.  I never went back.  However, nothing much different at any other restaurant or bar on the ship.

- Ship - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!  Everything in the "Seaplex" has a scheduled time that if the kids wanted to try something they waited in line for at least an hour to have a one time experience.  The living Room is nothing more than couches and TVs.  The "Solarium" is for adults only.  I saw a review that said there would be pool parties - NOT.  Kids are not allowed.  Which can be a good thing except when the advertised SEAPLEX is supposed to be for teens so they can have there space,  instead it is for everyone..... therefore LONG lines.

_ Our itinerary was changed prior to boarding.  We had a port day taken away leaving us only 2 days at port and 6 days of sailing with little to do.

- Prior to sailing, I tried on several occasions to book dinners and excursions only to have the website say they are not available for booking yet.  Upon arrival to the ship, we waited in a line to book dinner reservations.  Once I got to the reservation table ( a folding table), I had to kneel on the ground in front of the table as the hostess sat across from me on her chair with her laptop.  As we discussed options, she kept glancing around and not staying engaged in the conversation to book reservations.  I finally gave up and left after booking a couple of dinners.

- Labadee - RC private beach - EVERYTHING is additional $$ with the exception of the BBQ they serve once at lunchtime and drinks (only if you have a drink package).  Float mats are extra $, The floating H2O toys/park is extra $/hourly rate, Zipline is extra $, Rollercoaster is extra $, Waterslide is extra $...  for the price of the cruise, this should all be  apart of the experience!

I could go on and on, however, I think I made my point that this cruise line needs to make some changes towards a more pleasant customer experience and fine tune the details on their new ship!

If you still choose to cruise on this itinerary... Zip lining in Puerto Rico over the jungle canopy is the only thing we enjoyed that RC offered!  It was absolutely amazing and the staff were very friendly and fun!
