If someone asked me about cruising on the Oosterdam I would probably recommend it with reservations as long as they understood what they were getting. It is an older, smaller ship and it is a Holland America cruise. If that is what they are looking for and understand what that means they should be ok. Getting on and off the ship even though there are less than 2000 passengers is slow and difficult so plan ahead if you have an excursion. However I would recommend any Celebrity and most RCC and Princess ahead of this line.

Our steward wanted to clean our rooms early & if we were dressing and asked him to come back later, we came back from excursions to a dirty room hours later. Twice we had to call at 5pm for a room clean. Room service is offered but line is almost always busy.

Activities just to get you to spend money

great cruise line. Great trip. Food very very versatile to suite all tastes. Marvelous rooms with valets to help all day. Wonderful vacation   Would love to take Thsi incredible vacation again. Wonderful time.

Holland Amer. ship OOsterdam is a beautiful ship, it is comfortable, nicely laid out(meaning that it is easy to get around and not get lost). The resturants are very nice and the food is superb,the wait staff is attentive and hepful in making sure you know how the food is prepared. The entertainment was very good we went every night to the shows and liked them all.

We liked the ship very much the layoput was very nice the rooms were spacious and always clean . the food was good overall. I wish there had been a nother pool , and a few more resturants or dinningf areas would be nice, but we had a great time onboard

The ship itself looked like it needed some updating. A bit on the gaudy Las Vegas side but not too bad. The crew/service folks were fantastic and on-spot ready for anything or any request.

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Well organized. Very enjoyable trip.

Very good ship

The ship was very well maintained and very clean. Staff very attentive and prompt. The Oosterdam has many wonderful features. My two sons age 8 and 10 loved every minute of club HAL.

Could not sit on balcony and see anything because of metal railing. Most rooms had plexiglass railings but ours did not. We PAID for a balcony and got no kind of discount nor was anything said that indicated some rooms had "obstructed view" balconies. This was a special 50-year anniversary cruise for us and the first time we had cruised with HAL. I would never book with them again.

Very good ship

Overall this was an excellent trip, the views were spectacular, the staff was top notch, the ship was clean... it was very impressive.

The ship needs updating. The food was the poorest I have ever had on a cruise. The staff was very friendly. The room were big and the bed was comfortable. The first day out to sea was very rough and many of us were sick. They got in late to Victoria and they cancelled our excursion

The ship was kept fairly clean. I didn't spend any time in the casinos but they are non-smoking now, which is a big plus for me. The staff was overall friendly and courteous but the food was generally over-cooked.

I cruised on the Oosterdam many times ,the ship cruised out of San Diego to Mexico for a few years.This was a re postion cruise , with a good price , good food and a vrey good crew.

Ship size was a little more than I like (about 2000 guests) and they did not handle anytime dining well. But that aside the food, the staff, cleanliness, entertainment were all superb

Some people are afraid of the longer cruises, but really it made it so relaxing. And you able to enjoy all of what the ship was to offer.

I had an issue with the Holland America line itself. After my now 10th cruise i would have to say Holland America would be my last choice for cruising. I would take a bus trip before i would cruise with them again. Compared to other cruising lines they are by no way considered in my books 4 star.If there are any problems, you have to run on American time to get anything resolved. I was as well as a few others i spoke to throughout the cruise were very disappointed. Ship was in no way kept as clean and as well maintained as some that i have been on. A staff member died on our cruise due to what could only be a lack of maintenance to the safety of the ship. Cruise was actually January 2011 on the Volendam
