An almost wonderful cruise

Sail Date: July 01, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship itself looked like it needed some updating. A bit on the gaudy Las Vegas side but not too bad. The crew/service folks were fantastic and on-spot ready for anything or any request.

Pros: The scenary\, ports of call and excursions were great

Cons: Room was not as described--obstructed view should have said\, \"no view at all\"

Recommends Oosterdam? Yes!

Ship Quality
As mentioned in a previous review there was a musty smell in parts of the ship--our room included. Spots on rugs\, etc but to expected with the quick turn-around they have to get things ready for the next trip.
Food and Dining
Can't complain about the food. Almost everything was excellent and cooked to specification. The dining room was very nice and the buffet was just that--a buffet--but so many options and so much fresh\, great food to choose from.
Cabin / Stateroom
I was told I would be offered an upgrade but that did not happen. Also\, at time of embarkation a room had not been assigned so after waiting in line I was sent back out again to get a room--it took me awhile to figure out where to do this because there was no clearly marked desk for this. I finally found it\, got a random room\, and then had to go back into waiting in line to board. That was a bit frustrating.
Service and Staff
Too bad we have to pay extra for some of the gym facilites and classes. A Zumba class would go over great in this setting--more so than the yoga or pilates. As a single person there were no dance options that included singles. The bar options were great and if you get a chance go to Reynaldo's station for the mixology and theme tasting.
