NCL docks in a weird place. We took the paid gondola to the top of a mountain just for a look out point. The free gondola takes you to a little town with shops. From there you can take a shuttle to get you to another town that is not NCL owned and operated. Too little time to do that after riding to top of paid gondola.
Had to bus into town, then bus back to port in order to bus to NCL excursion, The Bike and Hike was cut short due to two elderly ladies (80’s) who signed up for the tour.
In Skagway you had to tender to shore. This takes a lot of time out of your day. The White Rail pass is great and we enjoyed the bike ride back down the mountain.
Good size city and we loved our helicopter and dog sled tour. NCL docked, but then moved boat so we had to tender back to boat. NCL also cut the port time down by 3 hours so we didn’t get to explore the town after our excursion,
NCL has its own port and warehouse of shops they dock at. You had to shuttle by bus into town or to take any excursion. The Totam Brite tour was not good, but the lumberjack show was. The time in port was extremely short and too early in the morning. I’d advise everyone not to schedule an excursion, but to go to town and explore on your own.
Not worth the stop. Scheduled to be there 7:30 pm -midnight. Arrived at 8:30 pm and by the time we got off the boat, the excursion person said we would have to taxi back on our own to catch the boat. At least half the passengers turned right around and returned to the boat. Of course there were shops you had to walk thru to get back to the boat.
We took Princess to Alaska for just that reason. After doing research, I saw the dock that Norwegian used in Ketchikan (Ward Cove) and considering we were only there for six hours wanted to maximize our time there.
