Would like to have plenty of good things to say about this cruise but some of the workers on the ship were pretty bad and also the ship itself was so so. Have cruised with Ncl plenty of times and on different ships but this was a mediocre cruise at best. Itinerary was great!!! Something about the ship seemed a little off.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Very fast did not take long at all.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Main dining rooms had at times slow service and more than a few times food was not very good and very very cold, almost like they had it prepared and it was just sitting waiting for someone to order. Not good at all!!!
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Did not attend.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Had some good entertainment at night in the Bliss lounge. Love to sit back and listen to 80's music and reminisce.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Hit and Miss. Some very good, some not so much. Anjanett in the Champagne Bar was excellent as was the bartender Cuba. Bartender at the rear of the ship on the outside under the canopy was not so friendly. Person in charge of Internet (Pablo) was down right rude and needs to find other work. Hostesses at main dining rooms (both dining rooms) were delightful.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Cleanliness was fine, design was really strange. This ship being one of the oldest in the fleet I guess makes a little more sense on the design. The buffet was not at all a pleasant experience. Never experienced a layout of this design, it's hard to explain how small this buffet was! Very limited selection and the hours of operation for lunch was really weird. Had to pay particular attention to hours of operation. If you happen to be off the ship looking around you never knew if the lunch was over. A few times had them close the line as we walked up. Very strange.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was very large compared to other's we have stayed in. Plenty of closet space and plenty of room to walk around, was not cramped at all.
Ship tip
Don't expect to be awed by this ship, very weird layout in some areas and also some of the crew very much not people person's.
The scenery at this port was amazing, especially standing on the parade grounds at the old Ft. Seward (Spectacular). The town it's self is ok. Saw an IGA supermarket for the first time in many many years. 😂
Your right I didn't mean in the fridge cold but sitting out not under any heating device at all. Of the 4 plates at our table the only one that was even warm was mine. I know the difference between fridge cold and room temperature cold. The other 3 were room temperature and uneatable to say the least. Good luck on your cruise on the Sun coming up,please let us know how it goes for you.
I will be on the Sun in a few more days and I am looking forward to the cruise. When there are 200-500 people dining at once, the food IS prepared in advance and then kept in food warmers. Although I believe it's all perspective when it comes to food temp, cause when you say very very cold, I think of refrigerator cold, and I'm quite sure you food wasn't cold, but in reality just wasn't hot.
Thanks for the review. You chose a ship that is 24 years old. That is just how they built ships back then. Yes, they do prepare the MDR foods hours before hand. Could you imagine trying to make individual meals one at a time for thousands of people every night?
