Review summary

I, like many of the people we met and talked to, have no plans on cruising on the Sun in the future. Left a very bad taste in our mouths.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Specialty off-set the rest of the dining experiences.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There were a couple activities but none I would say were good enough to want to do them again. And the pool was always cold. And many staff workers had a hard time communicating.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
What entertainment? The comic was pathetic and NOT funny. Not even amusing. The only stage show was the last night. They were good and would have liked to have seen more of their performances. The DJ was just so-so. The Asian couple who sang were ok but more like you would see at a low-budget wedding reception.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward was friendly and accommodating. And Monica, in the Windjammer, was the only bartender that know how to make a Perfect Manhattan. Everyone else (and I had four different versions by four different bartenders) sucked. I even explained it to three of them, how to the how to make it! The staff in the French and Italian Specialty dining rooms were professional and polite. The staff in the Steakhouse were a different story. A lack if attention, multi servers (at times we weren't sure who was our actual waiter), and confusion when we asked to take our desserts back to our cabin. We were treated like second-class people. They insisted that we meet them outside the restaurant and they would give us the rest of our desserts, but reluctantly.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The layout took a little time to get accustomed to, but in the end we had a better idea.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The bed was comfortable and the room was adequate but would have been better suited if there had been a little table to eat at instead of the small coffee table that seemed to always be in the way. Of course being top deck forward, we experienced the ships movement and we were quite often rocked around (but that is not NCL's fault. They have no control over the waves). Then there was the bathroom. The more times than not there was an issue with the toilet flushing. Sometimes it could take up to 30 second, OR MORE, to actually flush. As for the bathtub. Thank God for handicap bars. The tub was so high it made it VERY difficult, and dangerous, to get in and out of.

Ship tip

Find another ship!!! I was told that NCL was a step above Royal Caribbean that was a step about Carnival. My experiences have been in reverse. I would much rather cruise on Carnival Pride than NCL Sun.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

4 out of 5
Usually the best but to cruise out of Baltimore you have to park you car a distance away and wait for a shuttle to and from the port. Although the shuttle experience we had was not bad.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
We were only there for about 2 hours. Just long enough to swap out some staff. Personally a waste of port fees.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten
