Review summary

This ship really needs a major overhaul. It's old.

bought norwegian special santiago to san antonio package. Very easy getting onto ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We mostly ate in the Garden Cafe. I thought the food was good, although it's laid out terribly with lines of people covering food. The order in which food was placed made no sense (salads in one area; salad dressing somewhere else). We ate in four specialty restaurants. None were worth the price.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I used the walk/run track many times. I wish it was wider, but it's a lot better on this ship than others I've been on.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
norwegian stage shows were great. "brought in" acts not so much -- magician and juggling were vaudeville; one of the singers was bad -- that's five nights of the show entertainment. Good variety of lounge singers/musicians. A lot of it was very good.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room service very good and helpful. We accidentally packed all of my companion's shoes on the last day, and the attendants brought her a pair of slippers she could wear off the ship. Customer service was all smiles and no service. Tour purchase was ridiculously set up. It's like they're not aware that people might want to do something. And they generally were no help at all for explanation of options. Tour management was the worst I've ever seen. The DMV is more efficient. Everyone show up at one time and sit while they process one bus at a time, and one person at a time. Have they never done this before?

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The cleaning staff is very good. Everything cleaned all the time. But this ship is OLD!!!. Badly in need of fixing up. Windows are corroded so many blocked views. I wish hallways were wider, but I understand how that works. Some of the carpets were worn; none looked inviting.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The balcony door seal was so old that the wind blowing across the ship would whistle through the door. The only way we could sleep was to leave the balcony door open. Bathroom mirror was corroded -- I could still see, but it's like a really cheap motel. Really old design -- like 1950's style -- inefficient use of space.

I had to wonder again whether these people had ever done this before. Stand in line and wait until you get to the next place to stand in line and wait. After that you stand in line and wait.
