Review summary

The entire time spent of the Norwegian Sun was worth it!--Freestyle dining is the way to go--They take the time to cater to the customer--I would highly recommend them! ---The towns, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan are all unique, yet the same in many ways--catering to the ships that dock there. Drop/replace Icy Strait Pt!

Ship tip

Prepare to have a good time! Plenty to do, eat, and drink while on the Norwegian Sun!---Don't feel you have to take an excursion in every town...Enjoy the brief time in Juneau--no excursion needed there. Longest port of call is Skagway and the train ride to the Yukon is worth it !

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

5 out of 5
Nice quaint fishing village town! Excellent Sealife Center--Go enjoy it! Walk Resurrection Bay and see beautiful mountain views, salmon jumping, otters, and seals!

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Did not have the heart to give it only 1 star--Nice people but low point of the entire cruise..Not much to see or do..Should change this port for something that has more to offer.--Jeep excursion consisted of driving out 1 hr, walking up to a "beach", (not swimmable), taking some photos, then driving back--Not worth the $$---Oh, we did see salmon swimming up stream--got some good pictures of that.

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
Wishing we had more time there--it is the state capital, with lots of shops, sights to see, places to explore, etc, but not enough time!---We enjoyed the town but felt rushed---thus 4 stars--- Could/should have stayed longer here---We did the Mt Roberts Tram--worth it!

Cruise Sawyer Glacier Did not visit port

WE saw HUBBARD Glacier---Well worth it! Great pictures, calving was seen, and scenery was spectacular.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Another fishing village that is full of shops, jewelry stores, sights, etc. Lives for the ships that dock there. Plenty of history there.----Took the train to the Yukon and to the suspension bridge, and a coach tour coming back..Enjoyed all of this! Pleasant, picturesque rides both ways..Guides were very helpful pointing our sights, with stories, history, etc. Suspension bridge was cute, but only used to get tourist $$. Could have just taken the train I suppose, but it was ok.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
You dock right downtown on the street almost!---Much the same as other stops--stores, restaurants, sights etc. ---After Juneau and Skagway, the repetition starts to set in--thus 4 starsI--If there is an excursion that you like, take it--We enjoyed walking all the towns, except Icy Point (nothing really to do)...Saw the Lumberjack show, and went out to Bight St park, with totem pole history---Each was entertaining and worth it..

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Nice friendly people, with a growing, (building) city, but many vacant apartments to see. Typical city life with restaurants, shops, etc. took a bus tour--well worth it to see everything. Stanley Park, the harbor, Granville island are things to note. Took a cruise to Victoria Island.. Butchart Gardens, Empress Hotel, and the harbor are unique--Really enjoyed the Island!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Much like the embarkation--Seamless and efficient--Norwegian has a system and it works!
