2011 Mexican Riviera. A good... by am7d

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

2011 Mexican Riviera. A good entry level cruise. Food was good. Entertainment was good. Ports were nice. This was my first cruise, so honestly, I am rating it as such.

Look around before you book this Cruise by GaryA5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The only good thing about this trip was the shows were entertaining. The food at the buffet was repeated every other day!! No variety in menu - sit down meals were acceptable but laking that "specially" presentation and taste. Every where you went, shows, etc. the crew was selling instant bingo tickets constantly - I felt like I was at a cheap county fair!! Overall ship condition was passable inside (room was so-so) and outside, the ship appeared to lack daily maintenance - worn carpeting, rubbed off paint, etc.

The ship was clean and beautiful, the activities accomidate everyone from dancing to shows to lounging by the pool and if you were feeling lucky you could try your odds in the Casino.

Mediocre:7/10/10 - 7/17/10 by IleanaM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

From the embarkation through the debarkation everything was mediocre. We were a party of two, my husband and I, and we decided not to let anything ruin our vacation. We were not impressed with anything, and there is a long list of mediocre items. With an exception: the food was a little less than mediocre. The quality of the staff was a bit less than average also, the two problems were lack of customer service instincts (congeniality) and some degree of difficulty with the English language.

Great Cruise by GregA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my first cruise and I enjoyed it at lot. I would sail on this ship any time. The crew was great and the entertainment excellent. I ate at the buffet too often and should have gone to the dinning rooms more. We ate at the Italian resturant and it was ok. The Tex Mex was good as I'm from the south west.

Great AK Cruise - 8/28/10 to 9/4/10 by JeraldH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was very well maintain and the service was top notch. While we were essentially going first class with a one bedroom cabin the trip and service exceeded our expectations.

Would I cruise NCL again?... by SKorus

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

Would I cruise NCL again? Yes, but only for right itinerary or deal. We usually cruise on Princess but have cruised on NCL before we started with them.

Four "Star" Review by MaryA46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska

First day the ship was difficult to get around. The hanging diagrams of the ship near the elevators was not completely helpful. To get outside by the pool, the diagram indicates deck 12 but in reality, we had to walk up the stairs to deck 18 to get outside. Same thing with the Versailles and Blue restaurants, they were a half deck down from what was stated. Not enough time in ports. Food quality and menu choices in "free" restaurants was average and not exciting. I think they do that to lure you to go to the "pay" restaurants. I wish that we didn't have to open our cabin door to hear the captain's announcements over the loudspeaker system. But we enjoyed watching the reports from the bridge on the TV.

Nice cruise by BarbaraM7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We took this same ship for the same cruise last year and loved it -- even though it was during Spring Break and the ship was full. This year, the ship was not full, but the services were not as good as last year. They were also "remodeling" a portion of the ship which formerly included a library, game room, meeting room and small theater. I understood from staff that they were now turning these formerly nice public areas into suites. The construction was loud if I wanted to lay down and take a nap during the day in our room. I was also quite disappointed that they moved the "Friends of Bill W" meeting from 5:00 in the afternoon in a nice meeting room, to 3:00 in the afternoon in one of the restaurants which took place while the restaurant was being cleaned and made ready for dinner. Being of Friend of Bill W's, I was annoyed by the constant solicitations for alcoholic drinks, but that took place last year too, and is something I just get used to. On the plus side, our cabin stewards were fantastic, the "freestyle cruising" is still such a plus, the restaurants were great, the buffet was good morning, noon and night and the shows (all included in the price) were good. The condition of the ship is excellent. We had a balcony room again and it was spacious enough, with a nice size bathroom. I really liked the Norweigian Star before they took out the public areas, but it's still a good ship. I could pass on Mazatlan, but we had a great time in Puerto Vallarta on the shore excursion to Las Calitas. My daughter and boyfriend took the adventure shore excursion where they ziplined, and they really enjoyed it also.

"A Bit Tired" by KarenM11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Ship is tired - older - not particularly clean. There should have been some interesting lectures or seminars on history of the region, etc, instead of just things to pay for or seminars trying to get you to buy something. The balcony room was so small - we almost were sleeping in the bathroom. Thank goodness the cruise was only a week!

great time by JudyL8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

This was my first time on Norweigian. Was very happy with my room location and the ship was easier to get around. THe freestyling eating was great so you didn't get stuck with someone for the whole week. The food was good but felt they needed more vegetables with the main course. Also more salad selections would have been great in the main dining rooms. Buffet had a lot of variety. It would be nice to have the ice cream open at longer times.
