We had fun by CaliforniaDream

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Embarcation was slow, disembarcation was ridiculously slow. Entertainment and cleanliness was excellent. There were  plenty of venues to keep us entertained, and areas to sit back and relax. The food at the buffet was good as was our experience at the main dining rooms. We paid extra to dine at three specialty restuarants, The Ginza has a Japanese name but serves mediocre Chinese food. La Cucina had very good Italian food but very slow service.Le Bistro had great service but below average food. Save your money and eat in the main dining rooms. If you have to gamble, beware that the house take is as high as you will find any where in the world. This was our 10th cruise, the second on NCL, it was basically what we expected. We would cruise on NCL again, but prefer Royal Caribean or Holland America. We had a balcony stateroom. It was smaller than other cruise ships, but adequate. Our cabin steward 'Rusty' was very friendly and took very good care of us.

Worst Ship I've Ever Been On! by cristheweasel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

This was my 5th cruise - 1st with Norwegian. I must say, short of them giving me a free cruise, it will be my last with them! The ship was falling apart, many areas were visibly 'broken' in disrepair. We even got locked out on our balcony! Balcony cabin was extremely small! Food was limited and not that great, our room steward was awesome, but all other service providers were merely substandard. No one went out of their way to be friendly or engaging. Didn't see many \"happy\" faces. I was shocked & disappointed by the lack of entertainment options on board. And their \"vegas\" show was awful! I think I could have sang & danced better, and that's not saying much! Overall, extremely disappointed in this cruise!

Not for kids by justintraveler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

This ship is not for kids. You wait nearly 2 hours for dinner service. The kids area is not fun at all. The shows are for adult crowds only. Has they show strip clubs and pull dancers.

Worst cruise ever with kids by justintraveler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The nightly shoes are for adult crowds only that like to watch pull dancers and several sexual scenes. The kids were also excited about the kids programs which ended up being terrible and made for long days at sea. The kids didn't like the rude staff or the activities at all. What made it worse was the 2 hour wait time for a seat at dinner. Was bad al week for everyone from groups of two to twenty simply not an organized ship for meal times.

Stressful experience by MastiffMama

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

We boarded Nov 17 in Miami, after handing our 3 pieces of luggage to a luggage handler on the dock who was to deliver it to the ship, along with others.   Our luggage never appeared by end of day.   We finally learned that our luggage was dumped into the ocean by the tram driver, along with those of several others.   We lost about two hours itemizing and listing every piece of wet clothing, which was to be washed and dried.  Our luggage was ruined as were two electrical items and some clothing. The following day, when my clothing never was returned to me, I was told that it was not there (even though there was an itemized list showing what had been there).  After much stress and lost time, it finally showed up (we were told they didn't know what cabin it belonged to!).   We still have had no response to our letter requesting reimbursement.  Additionally, I caught bronchitis the last week of the 13-day cruise and could not go on shore trips in the extreme heat.  I was told by the ship's doctor that I was one of the lucky ones, as everyone else he was seeing  had pneumonia.    Compared to other ships we were on, we found the elevators to be relatively small and crowded.  Long lines at some of the restaurants, blocking access to the restaurants.  On the positive side, the beds were comfortable and the buffet had many interesting choices.  Food was plentiful.  The casino was fun and the hosts and slot people were very friendly and accomodating.

Much better than expected by richa306

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The check-in was slower than other cruise lines, but NOT the worst. The beds were a little on the firm side, maybe having the option for an extra comforter or three (we had 3 extra in our suite)should be available for everyone if not already available.

Excellent cruise by stringmup

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The ship was clean and in excellent shape. The crew went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The entertainment was excellent. The representative of Norwegian at the Ft. Lauderdale airport was extremely rude toward my wife. She was confused about which papers he wanted. Instead of being helpful, he began a 3 minute mocking of her. He should be fired. Other than that the other representatives of the company were wonderful.

Another Enjoyable Cruise by SuzanneC3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This is our fourth NCL cruise and fourth ship. Upon boarding, I saw what I expected from Norwegian: good directional signs, helpful staff, buffet lunch ready. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the announcement that staterooms were ready after lunch, although we didn't see our luggage until after dinner that evening. Totally understandable when thousands of pieces of luggage had to be loaded, sorted and delivered. The safety briefing was given in several locations which made it easier to avoid congestion in the theater or elevators. So far, so good!

A Good Cruise by bcdang1224

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

We enjoy NCL with Free Style Cruising as well as the Excellent Staff on the ship (Services, Entertainment, Hotels, Food, etc.). We do think the seats in the theater need to be replaced or repaired. The majority of them are broken. Thanks,

Lots of Walking by brettgoguen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This was an awesome cruise. Being a history buff stopping in alot of the places I've read about was great. Was amazed that the medieval church in Rostock Germany was in such good shape after all of the bombing that the country went thru. Tallinn in Estonia was very quaint and we walked from the ship to the tourist area.  We spent two days, with a guide, in St. Petersburg and we were amazed at the Hermitage museum as well as the Peterhof palace and Catherine's palace.  Helsinki, Finland, was more walking but it wasn't as easy to get around as Tallinn.  Stockholm, Sweden was everyone's favourite city. It is built on a series of islands and was so beautiful. While in Copenhagen we did visit Tivoli Gardens and purchased some "real" danish pastry on our last day.

Great itinerary by NJCruiser128

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

While the itinerary was great, I was alittle disappointed with the inconsistency of service that we received in the dining rooms.  The service in the speciality restaurants was excellent.  We dined at La Cucina, Moderno, Teppanyaki and Cagney's.  My only complaint for the speciality restaurants was in Cagney's Steakhouse.  We were already paying $30 extra per person to dine in Cagney's and we wanted Surf N Turf.  They were requesting an additonal fee for the lobster because it was considered a second main course, that is absurd.  I cruised on Princess last year and when we requested lobster in addition to our meal, we were not told that it would be an additional cost.  The service in the other specialty restaurants was excellent.  Breakfast in the Versailles dining room was very inconsistent.  At times we had to wait almost 20 minutes for our juice to arrive.  On several occasions, we ordered danish for the table, however, they were never served.    The service in the Aqua dining room was very good which was surprising since this was much more casual than Versailles.  We ate in the Blue Lagoon once for lunch and was very disappointed.  There was a very limited menu and an appetizer was ordered, however, we never received it.
