Great for the Whole Family! by VeraB2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Norwegian Star is a beautiful ship. Let's just say it was spotless. Every part of the ship was shiny and clean. We liked the fact that guests were encouraged to sanitize their hands before entering any restaurant and when coming back from a port of call. The staff was courteous, efficient and pleasant. The shows were so much better than we expected. The entire experience was excellent because every member of our family (including a teenager and pre-teen) were happy with the activities on board.

Very relex cruise by JulieK4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

we enjoyed the ship very much. We did not feel any rocking except one day when we were at top speed. We did not even have the after rocking feeling at all after we left the ship. Weather was wanderful. There were plenty to eat and food was good. Room layout was good. We had four people in one room and we manage to get around each other ok.

A mixed bag of triumphs &disapointments by JoanB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise on the Norwegian Star, and possibly our last. We booked the Alaska Inside Passage, which has gorgeous ports of call and lots of shore excursion opportunities. The ship itself is beautiful, I was particularly impressed with the stateroom bathroom size (big!), spa area, and the Grand Atrium. Unfortunately the food and beverage service leaves much to be desired. We paid for the unlimited refills on soda, and it was practcally an act of congress to even get served in the dining areas. The menu choices were severely limited in comparison to other cruise lines, and the quality and portion sizes were not what they should have been. The dining areas and lounges were also obviously short staffed-many times we had to wait to be seated with a plethora open tables in view, and service was chronically slow. We sailed with some friends who were mistakenly billed for a bottle of wine which they never ordered, and the manager refused to refund the charge in spite of the fact they had no signed receipt as proof they ordered it! Unfortunately these issued have tainted what should have been a delightful cruise experience.

Fabulous!!! by KimE4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Ship was beautiful and the staff was so friendly and helpful. We did not care for the Market Place cafe, enviroment was not pleasant, food was so-so. Also did not care for set up of Blue Lagoon, diffulcult to walk thru with food servers crossing walkway.

Alaska incredible, despite the ship by Lance1

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

On and off was spectacular. Cabin, butler and itinerary too. The rest was from bad to fair. It's all about selling you stuff and pushing you to mark "excellent" on their own reviews.

Try an Alaskan Cruise by AlisonS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our second cruise with Norwegian and our first on the Star. We enjoyed both cruises a great deal and are most fond of the Free Style dining. It meant we didn't have a set time or place to eat. There were six hot tubs on the Star, though few hearty souls to use them (we did). One day we were in forty-five degree rain sitting in the hot tub, passing the snow covered hills. OK - so maybe we're not the brightest of cruisers. Even if you have no interest in seeing any of the ports, you MUST see and hear the glaciers. The glaciers have a blue cast and some of the huge chunks of ice floating by will have blue stripes. The thunderous sound of the glaciers cracking in spring and the cascade of ice down the glacier, followed by the crash into the water cannot be described adequately. You've got to be there.

Very impressive. Having never been on a cruise, it was almost overwhelming to see the wonderful facility and all it had to offer.

A very relaxing cruise! by ErikaB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was very nice and big. My friend and I wanted to relax on the ship and we did just that. I wouldn't recommend this cruise for younger singles as many of the on board activities are more geared for older adults and couples. We were surprised to see we had a television in our room, however, the majority of the channels had to do with ship activities and then the same movies were played over and over on rotation practically. I was grateful for the one cable channel we did have as it offered some variety but I wish there was more available for those days that you just want to rest and stay in your room.

Great cruise!! by LorriG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was great - well set up - Everything was clean - rooms were cleaned promptly and towels were available several times a day if needed. The decks, spas and all public areas of the ship were kept clean at all times. I loved the spa and gym - spa had a lap pool and a great relaxation room. I also liked the fact that you could remain in your room while waiting to disembark

Relaxing and Service by WallyM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

From the check inn (lattitude member) to the express debarkation option, we found this cruise to be exceptional. We enjoyed the free style dinning the best. Of course the entertainment lived up to the quality we have become to expect on NCL. The staff were all accomodating and acted like they were glad we were there. When you realize each weekly cruise (every 8 days) these people are quality picked and trained. Thanks NCL for a great cruise.

overall a great trip by JeffG8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We sailed on the Norwegian Star, and this was our first trip with NCL and "free-style" cruising. We have been on quite a few cruises before, all in the traditional style. Having many choices for dining was a real plus -La Trattoria, Le Bistro and Cagney's were all outstanding - but i must say that the main dining room and Market Place buffet are very average and service is not always great. The pool was also another area that was disappointing. It was very small for such a large ship. The entertainment onboard was not as good as past cruises, also. But there were many bright spots! The balcony rooms were very spacious and the baths were much more roomy than on any other cruise line that we have traveled with. The work-out facilities were excellent with free wieghts and many machines and even a lap pool and 2 spas. Knowing what to expect from the dining choices I think we would do it again!

A Recent Traveler from Washington by MikeS31

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Overall we really enjoyed our recent cruise. There were a couple things about this ship that were not as enjoyable as on previous cruises. We were told Spring break would be over when we booked the cruise. It wasn't. Also, there is only 1 small outdoor pool and it has 2 water slides connected to it. So, pool was always crowded. The staff on the ship were very good and always wanting to help. The ports we visited were excellent. I wish the port calls were longer.

Cruise to the Mexican Riviera by CharlesH1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The Norwegian Star was kept up imaculate, the staff was extremely friendly and at no time did you feel crowded on the ship. The entertainment was top notch. The only complaint was that there was not enough time to attend all the different entertainment going on on the ship.

Great Vacation at a Great Price by BrendaA3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Although it there were lots of kids on this cruise (as it was spring break) there were so many activities for them we rarely heard any complaints from them like: are we there yet, or, I'm bored. Other than this the cruise was exceptional. The staff always smiled and were pleased to be of service. The entertainment was just that....entertaining! There was a special guest star from the Bold and the Beautiful who performed his comedy act and let us experience his wounderful voice. The cruise director Simon always kept us informed of events and had a great sense of humor. Loved the trip

Our comparison cruise by CathyB12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We came on this cruise with high expectations. We were looking forward to a high end experience, but were disappointed right away. Embarkation was a mess from the beginning. We only had a couple of downloaded pieces of paper as "tickets" with some very vague directions. There were long lines with no one knowing what we should do. We were to cruise on the Norwegian Star for 8 days to Acapulco,Mexico. We had no luggage tags and had to get in 1 line for tags and then another long line to actually get on the ship. Our luggage was delivered quickly, but we noticed right away the crew wasn't very friendly or helpful and warm compared to our last year's Royal Caribbean cruise. It was just ok over all - the entertainment, food, service, and was very crowded
