Review summary

We came on this cruise with high expectations. We were looking forward to a high end experience, but were disappointed right away. Embarkation was a mess from the beginning. We only had a couple of downloaded pieces of paper as "tickets" with some very vague directions. There were long lines with no one knowing what we should do. We were to cruise on the Norwegian Star for 8 days to Acapulco,Mexico. We had no luggage tags and had to get in 1 line for tags and then another long line to actually get on the ship. Our luggage was delivered quickly, but we noticed right away the crew wasn't very friendly or helpful and warm compared to our last year's Royal Caribbean cruise. It was just ok over all - the entertainment, food, service, and was very crowded

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was just so-so. Not many choices and was mediocre. Service was poor over all. the best thing was the roles & butter! The buffet was horrible over all. We called this area where the "cattle" ate! We prefer dining times and tables reserved just for us so you get to know your servers. The menu didn't match what showed up on your plate. Most things were too weird and exotic to enjoy. No freestyle dining! Room service was very limited as to choices. Powdered eggs, ugh! Desserts looked much better than they tasted. Versailles room was beautiful, but Aqua was mediocre.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We liked the separate movie show, but the main showroom looked Ok, but the entertainment was poor, and the cruise director was hard to understand and annoying. Was there only BINGO by day & Karoke by night to do?

Service and Staff

Not very friendly or helpful overall, though we made friends with 3 of the crew.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The pool area was way too small. The slides took up too much of the deck area. Children took over most of the time, so we never got to use these facilities. We liked the separate movie theater, but there were way too many lounges and not much area to just sit and enjoy.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I liked the shower. unfortunately, the room stewards weren't very creative. The Royal Car. cruise made up the towels every night. Could ude more room to sit down. We had an inside cabin which is adequate as you are usually only in it to sleep. No point to the miniscule "oatio" or having a window or porthole as you aren't in the room very much during the day anyway. save the $.

Ports of call

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Very commercial a lot like Tijuana. Forget the Senior Frog, Cabo Wabo, hype. The shrimp factory is good food. Skip Margueritsville unless you want $9 drinks and blah chips. Town is much improved over 2005.

Acapulco, Mexico

Very poor area to visit. We were on a tour whose main objective appeared to be for us to spend out $. The guide was a salesperson. The tile factory is a showroom . The tequila factory and tasting turned out to be a high pressured sales maneuver to sell very expensive bottles of "rare"? tequila and a poor excuse for a lunch! The cliff divers were nice, but overall the area is horrible until you see the newer resort area. The ship should dock there.
Don't Miss: cliff divers

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
Skip all the shopping excursions as they are a rip. Just poke around yourself.
Don't Miss: evening Pirate ship advebture w/o kids!
