Great Alaska Cruise by JulietaA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship is very nice, elegant and understated. The layout is pretty easy to follow. It is extremely clean and well maintained for the amount of traffic it gets. I was pleasantly surprised.

Good Cruise by DhruvD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

As always, let's start with the negetives. I've been on Norwegian cruise prior to this experience. I had no problems at that time and enjoyed it to its fullest. But on Star I was not able get a single restaurant I wanted for the entire week. I had to settle for what was available. And since they only reserve a day in advance, I could not reserve the restaurant I had wanted to go to, day after day. What's the point of having 12 restaurant with 0 availibilty? Twice on my trip, the waiter were not freindly and very rude. Now for the good. The cleaning crew were very freindly. The ship was very nice.....

Enjoyable cruise by YuanzhengG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was an enjoyable cruise trip. Alaska is beautiful. Overall, shows, food, and services were good. Some shore activities especially dog sledding was impressive, even it was expensive. La Bistro was excellent, but some paid dining was just so-so. Swimming pool was too cold (water temperature was too low) to enjoy. Glacier was a little too far away to see details. Stateroom arrangement was inappropriately arranged and uncomfortable.

We had a great time on our cruise to Alaska aboard the Norwegian Star. The food was fantastic, entertainment was terrific (Second City Comedy Troupe), and the scenery was better than I could have immagined.

"A disapointment" by SandraS60649738

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska was worth seeing, but the cruise was not because of the lack of what I consider better food quality and the need to make a reservation for the upscale restaurants, which if not booked at the beginning of the cruise , were impossible to get in. The Star was however very efficient in procedures for exiting and entering the ship. I feel after spending a amount of money that is ample there should not be a charge for restaurants.

Very good cruise by Barb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Loved the ship it was beautiful. We had an outside cabin with balcony. We really loved it. A full bathroom was nice. Staff was excellent. Shows at night were great. Don't go for food that's forsure. Market cafe is like a buffet style. And you do not serve your self the first half of the cruise because they try to keep germs away. That's ok but they don't want to serve a large portion either. Most of the time we received Tea and milk in juice glasses with our meal at the market cafe. Had to request 2 glass of Tea so I would have 1 glass to drink with my meal. The Tea tasted like instant also very bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Half of the free restaurants you had to make reservations for. That was unexpected, also the menus did not change the whole cruise. Don't look for a midnight Buffet. There really isn't one. They don't mention it When you review the cruise and they don't announce it on the ship either. There are late night snacks in the casino Imagine that. Other wise you go look for something to eat in a few places that are still open, if you are really hungry. Seems like the day's activities were more about trying to sell you things. Night time was selling krackets. These are like loto tickets that you can use to play Bingo with or a the casino. The evening shows were very good. Jean Ann Company did a good job. Seconded city comedy was very good.

Never Again! by LoriD6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Food was awful and service was even worse! Mexican restaurant was the best..however..did not plan to have to eat Mexican each day aboard cruise ship! If I would've wanted to do that we ould have traveled to Mexico for sun and surf! Room was noisy. Just a very disappointing ship. I would NEVER travel or recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines to anyone. Our last cruise to Alaska was aboard to Princess..less expensive and the ship was gorgeous, food was above average and service was good.

Some good some not so good by TrishF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Ships was nice. Entertainment was lacking. We saw all the shows and they were just average. Andrew Lloyd Webber's tribute had people singing the songs in evening clothes, no costumes to go with the songs. Food was good. I gues there was a outbreak of Norwalk virus the second day out. They kept it pretty quite but did tighten up the common areas like you couldn't touch the buffett spoons. This was good. The things we saw were great. Didn't get very close to the glacier as there was ice. This happens in mid-May.

Our First Cruise by CoryA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

A great layout! Once we got used to the color coding of the carpets on thge stiars and or elevators area, we got around quite nicely between fore and aft of the ship. Very clean and accessable to all. The stateroom we had was on the port side with a balcony. We had more than enough room and the housekeeping staff was excellant and cheerful.

Things no one bothers to let you know by KerryM1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

1.The ship had severall mishaps - time delay due to fire in one of three engines, shut down one and only had two left. No information regarding early season cruises that limit the chances of seeing the GLACIERS(not safe) 2. No information about law concerning embarking at different locations(whether it is the Airlines fault or not! - missed the 1st 2 days of cruise as a result of airline 5 hour mechanical delay) 3. Automatic tipping is excessive and does not give the indivdual the opportunity to thank those that do a GOOD JOB and those that are mediocre.

A satisfying cruise by KarenW2

This was our third Norwegian cruise and the first on the Star. My mother, two brothers and I enjoyed everything and regret the missed opportunities due to early break up at the glacier and engine problems at the end of the trip.

Norwegian Star Alaska 2007 by DarrenK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship overall was nice and clean and the staff helpful. Food was above average for a cruise ship and overall you have a lot of choices for types. The ship did way over charge for Soda ($1.75/can) and Beer ($4.50/bottle of Budweiser). The reason for the very low rating is simple, the one Glacier we did see on the ship was a hanging glacier that that basically looked like a lot of snow on the mountain. Some people didn't even think that it was a Glacier since most of the mountains have show on it and it is hard to differentiate the two. Sawyer Glacier is in Tracey's Arm. This is a narrow area that icebergs usually have a hard time moving thru. This makes it impossible to pass for the larger ships like the Star. You would have much more luck going thru Glacier Bay with another Cruise Line. If you do take this cruise expect to pay for excursions to see the scenery or you will come back very disappointed.
