What cruising should not be. by ArleneL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The onboard spirite was not as upbeat as other cruises I have taken. The disco or dance area was horrible. The number of ederly individuals I know played a major part in the humdrum environment, nothing against them, just liven it up for the rest of the passengers.

I would recomment the pearl because it goes to victoria. A lot of people on our seattle tour did not like prince rupert. The food was great and the guys that cleaned our room we really liked them. The captain was hard to understand .overall ihad a wonderful time and i know thing won;t be perfect wherever you go.

An okay cruise by KristyF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I found myself bored a lot. I think the staff could have work a little harder to come up with stuff to do. I guess I am saying that the most fun I had was off the ship.

Wonderful experience! by JoanneD2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was a wonderful trip. The ship is beautiful, the crew is very friendly, and the ship is very clean all over. But what made this a unforgettable trip were the ports of call. I will never forget Inside Passage, Tracy Arm, Skagway, Ketchikan and so many other wonderful things I saw while cruising.

Alaska with Norwegian Cruise Lines by KateT1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first time on NCL. Loved it! Recommend it to all. Loved the ship, the food, the cruise director and staff. Loved being able to make our own schedule and actually do what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it! Go figure. Couple of downfalls where we had opted for express disembarking when we returned. There just did not seem to be enough staff showing us which way to go and way too many people also opted for it. You were being cut off by people coming off the elevators after standing in line for a long time!

What a stupid mistake by GregK2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

I had the feeling that I was there just to pay more for everything. Good restaurants - extra cover charges plus extra charges for some food. Internet 75 cents/minutes plus initiation fee, wine - very expensive. Calls to US - $6/minutes. Food in buffet - terrible. 8 days exactly the same menu, almost no vegetables (tomatoes, onion). Almost no fruits and bad quality - oranges, bananas, apples. Ripoff

Never again by HannaS

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The whole idea of freestyle cruising is a rip off. Good restaurants have cover charges plus you have to pay extra for special food - like lobsters. So if you want to eat lobster you pay $20 cover charge plus $25 for a lobster plus tip. It is $45/person That's what they call all included. Food in restaurants without cover charges is much worse in quality. Menu in all restaurants is exactly the same for duration of cruise.

Not the best... by TiffanyM7225359

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We would not choose NCl for another cruise. We have a laundry list of cons and it is hard for us to think of many pros. The stateroom was nice. We weer on deck 9 with a balcony. There were some stains on the love seat and the curtains that we thought should have been cleaned better. The beds were VERY uncomfortable, but were a good size. The reservation system for their dining on ship was horrible. You can only make a reservation 1 day in advance starting at 7am and if you are not up right at 7am good luck getting into any of the no cover charge places to eat with the exception of the main dining room. The variety of food is poor. In the buffet market it was the exact same food for each meal every day and the kids menu NEVER changed. Even in the main dining room over 8 days there were 3 menus and they rotated. There are not many family acitivites at all. There are things for the adults and the kids clubs for the kids, but not much of anything planned for families. The kids club hours are also not very good, they are short blocks of time 2-3 times each day instead of just being open all day. Also, if you are in port you have to pay for the kids to go into the kids club even if you are staying on the ship and you can not leave the kids in kids club and go off for a shore excursion unless your kids are potty trained. The staff at the front desk was not very helpful and on occassion very rude. When we had a complaint or were unhappy about something they would normally just stare at us and not do anything to address our problem. The room service menu leaves ALOT to be desired and 80% of the time they did not even deliver what was listed on the menu. The food places close fairly early at night and the ice cream place is only open until 5pm. If you like the 24 hour food and activites on the ship this is NOT the one for you. Everything stops by 1am on this cruise.

Great fun and great value! by Steve4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

I have been on NCL before and we love the free style cruising. We like the freedom to eat when we want. For the value NCL is the best. Some folks will complain about being charged for items that haven't been charged in the past, but I like paying for what I want and what I don't want.

Fun cruise by GinnyK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was very nice and big. The only problem we had was constant dirty sheets even after calling for clean ones. They would replace them with sheets that had nasty spots. This process took two hours when we had an early excursion the next morning.

warm weather by Cara1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

This was my second cruise with Norwegian in 5 years and on both cruises they changed our itinerary. I know that fuel prices are high, but to lie to us and tell us the ship had rudder problems and that they couldn't go as far and had to change two ports that we should have stopped at and then just like magic once we were started back to our departure point the ship was fixed! I wonder if Norwegian does this often. Several other cruisers told us they had the same problem on their last cruise with them. I will never travel with them again.

Our First Cruise! by VivianA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Overall, the ship was an amazing work of coordination, excellent, smiling, happy crew, good service, top rate entertainment. There was always more than enough to do, even when at sea - never a dull moment! The choice of different restaurants was very good, we didn't mind being charged a cover rate to get in, and were disappointed not to be able to get reservations to a couple of the restaurants that we wanted to try (there was always later availability than we wanted)

Great Cruise by GerryM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was great and the amenities were good also. The staff of the ship was attentive and very friendly. The ports were very nice and the two shore excursions were very professionally done. Overall the trip was good. The only problem I saw was the "nickel and dime" nature of charging for pretty much everything. For examplei If you want to use the swimming pool in the spa there is a $20 charge. I also was very surprised about the 15% gratuity imposed on everything "for my convenience". If you don't pay attention you will tip more than that amount. The chocoholic event was not as opulent as it had been in the past. The precautions that they took to prevent the Norwalk virus were quite extensive.
