Wonderful Experience by Suew63016551

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our overall experience was very positive. We had a mini-suite for three people and it was quite spacious. The help was friendly, helpful, and really added to the enjoyment of the cruise.

Norwegian Star by WG

The stop in Prince Rupert was a waste of time, it would have been nice to spend more time in other ports.

Norwegian Star 7-Day AK Sea RT by GaryS2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Great experience for families. There were a large number of families on our cruise and the dine when you want experience would work well for families. The accommodations seem geared for families and there seemed to be a lot to do for the kids on the ship. If you want elegance, fine dining, etc, then another cruise line will suit you better. If you don't care about fancy food, but want a cruise experience, NCL is a great way to go. They don't do anything wrong, it just isn't as upscale. We had a great time and would recommend this to others.

Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had dinner at every different restaurant every night and pay additional money. the service are all great but thefood in Tepanyaki is average, the desert is terrible. The japanese food does not have enough choices. The steak, The French and Italian are provide good food. The TV needs to be replaced. they are Old.

A Relaxing Vacation by VanessaM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We were very impressed of the different restaurants to select from. We had no problems getting any reservations or waiting long for a table. All the staff were very courteous, kind and helpful. The ship was so big it never felt we were traveling with almost a couple thousands of passengers. We were so pleased with all the activities available.

Summer 2010 Cruise Review by RobertJ3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Ship had construction in numerous staterooms throughout ship, creating noise starting at 8am each day. No theater. Indoor viewing area almost non-existing outside of the bufffet area (if your stateroom doesn't have a balcony or some other outdoor area, you'll be hard-pressed to locate a seat where you can gaze upon the beauty of the Inside Passage/Alaska or elsewhere for that matter) that is somewhat protected from the weather/wind. The NCL Star is not a good ship to take Alaska cruises on.

Great service from some, bad from others by JoelH19810093

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise so we weren't exactly sure what to expect. For the most part, the service staff was excellent. The food at the buffet was edible. We ate a few of the upcharge restaurants and it was definitely worth it. The food was a very good quality. We were disappointed to see the construction occuring in the rooms around us. We had to deal with walking through puddles and a leaky pipe in the hallway on one day. We only hope it was clean water that landed on our heads. The construction workers usually were blocking the way to the elevators with their various equipment. When we finally complained about the construction and dripping pipes, we were moved to a cheaper room and not given compensation for taking the cheaper room. They didn't even apologize for the experience.

Norweigan Star needs improving by KathyJ3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was beautiful and the ports of call were nice. I enjoyed the inside passage views. The ship personnel were all about money. Beds were not comfortable. Had to put money upfront on room for charges with set amount for tips, would not let you buy ANYTHING until you settled these charges for tips upfront. No free soft drinks, had to purchase them. Day of disembarkment. stopped on the way outside of ship for $8 charge, never given reason for charge. Should have given a bill night before to settle then, not on day leaving.

The snorkling excursion in Alaska was awesome. Room service was alway delicious. They had many different shows that were amazing, from magic to acrobats. We also enjoyed the Art auction.

The dining and activities were well organized. All staff were pleasant and courteous. Venues were clean and well maintained. We did not encounter lines for any activity. The decor of the ship was very pleasing and not overpowering.

Very disappointing by BlancaD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

I had traveled with NCL before on the same ship and doing the same itinerary (actually the previous was 10 days this one was 6 days) and I was surprised to see HOW MUCH the qulity had declined. The cabin service was horrendous, we never had the towels we requested, the sheets were dirty...so bad in fact that 3 people in my party refused to tip the cabin crew. Moreover the inner pool that was free is now ~$80 to use. In addition the entertainment program was almost non-existent, especially for a trip that spends such a long time at sea. Overall compared to other cruise experiences and especially compared to last time (2006) EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. I would not recommend that ship to anyone.

More that we had expected in every way by RoyL2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The crew made this a great experience. Always ready to provide help. The crew did everything to make it a first quality cruise. The entertainment was real quality performances and performers. The freestyle cruising left flexibility to do what we wanted, when we wanted. We could change our schedule easily. The food choices and quality were far beyond expectations.

TERRIBLE AS FAR AS SERVICE AND FOOD! by MaryW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS CRUISE LINE TO ANYONE. THE FREESTYLE CRUISING IS A SHAM. THE FOOD IS SO BAD IN THE RESTAURANTS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR CRUISE THAT YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD. THE STAFF IS NOT FRIENDLY OR HELPFUL. OUR ROOM WAS DIRTY FOR 2 DAYS UNTIL THE HEAD OF HOUSEKEEPING TOOK OVER AND MADE SURE WE HAD TOILET PAPER, TUB MAT. OUR MINI BAR WAS NEVER REFILLED AT ALL, AND GETTING MOTION SICKNESS PILLS THAT WERE NEEDED TO KEEP ME OUT OF MY ROOM WERE GIVEN OUT WITH A LECTURE. I WAS NEVER COMFORTABLE LIKE ON OTHER CRUISES. THERE IS ALSO A $12 A DAY CHARGE FOR EVERY GUEST INCLUDING CHILDREN THAT IS ADDED TO YOUR BILL AT THE END OF THE CRUISE. THEY ALSO ADD A 15% TIP TO THEIR ALREADY OVERPRICED DRINKS AND THEN HAVE A SPACE FOR ANOTHER TIP, WHICH SOME FRIENDS MISTAKENLY FILLED OUT, BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT BROUGHT THEIR GLASSES TO THE POOL AND WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS EARLIER. ALL AND ALL I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS CRUISE LINE TO ANYONE. THEIR ARE A LOT OF HIDDEN COSTS AND THE CREW DOES NOT EARN THEIR TIPS. THEY KNOW BEFORE THE CRUISE WHAT THEIR GETTING SO THEY HAVE THAT "I DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ATTITUDE".

Alaskian Cruise for the Family by SherrylB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We recently sailed on the Norwegian Star for the first time, and it was an experience we enjoyed. The Star's Marketplace buffet was a great food court with many more choices than we ever though with stations you can approach from all sides (breakfast was our favorite here). Very wide-open and airy feeling, a huge step up from the typical ship buffet. We loved the sit down restaurants as well. Great food selections and delicious choices. Loved the ability to choose to sit down or go through line. Did not try to the "surcharge" restaurants because we had a family and the cost was a turn off. We wanted to save our money for the excursions. We river rafted near the Mendenhall Glacier. Beautiful. We wanted to zip-line in skagway but the information on the excursions was difficult to find and navigate through. The cost of the excursions was high for a family and we really feel like we missed out on alot without the excursions. The ports of call were great but without the excursions the ports of call turned into shopping at the same stores, same merchandise at each port. This was not fun for our kids. Going on the excursions brought the area to life and excited the kids about Alaska's sites & natural beauty.
