Review summary

Great experience for families. There were a large number of families on our cruise and the dine when you want experience would work well for families. The accommodations seem geared for families and there seemed to be a lot to do for the kids on the ship. If you want elegance, fine dining, etc, then another cruise line will suit you better. If you don't care about fancy food, but want a cruise experience, NCL is a great way to go. They don't do anything wrong, it just isn't as upscale. We had a great time and would recommend this to others.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Wide variety of restaurant choices, but had to pay "cover charge" for most. Very disappointed in overall food quality. Food not bad, just not excellent. Desserts were terrible and the Chocolate Buffet was just the normal desserts - extremely disappointing! Staff was very friendly and helpful, though.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Weather prohibited swimming, but we enjoyed Second City comedy and the Crew Show. Chose one excursion (White Pass Train excursion - a must in Skagway!) and the Java Cafe band. Write up about the ship states there are DVDs to check out, but it turns out they are only available to certain high end suites. This was a major disappointment as we had planned on watching movies together on a laptop.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were friendly and responsive. We had a malfunctioning thermostat in our room and it was fixed immediately. Our steward was very friendly and personally invited us to the Crew Show since he was performing - very glad he did as we wouldn't have gone otherwise.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was confusing to get around in at first. Had the impression that designer was trying to get as much into the space as possible. Otherwise, nice ship with nicely appointed spaces. Not as elegant as some other cruise lines, but tastefully appointed.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
My adult son and I shared an inside cabin. It was adequate. The beds were comfortable enough but were an inexpensive frame and low to the floor (our cabin had a fold down upper bed to accommodate extra passengers). Small TV and only 2 wall plugs.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Tourism is the only industry. The original town has been preserved. Easy walk to town - don't pay for the shuttle unless walking is a problem for you or its raining.
Don't Miss: White Pass Train Trip

Pros: The scenery: glacier outside of Juneau; White Pass Train ride. Well organized cruise

Cons: Food was very disappointing. No DVD checkouts.
