Sail date: June 05, 2010

Ship: Norwegian Star

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Ship had construction in numerous staterooms throughout ship, creating noise starting at 8am each day. No theater. Indoor viewing area almost non-existing outside of the bufffet area (if your stateroom doesn't have a balcony or some other outdoor area, you'll be hard-pressed to locate a seat where you can gaze upon the beauty of the Inside Passage/Alaska or elsewhere for that matter) that is somewhat protected from the weather/wind. The NCL Star is not a good ship to take Alaska cruises on.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Dining room wait staff very attentative, but food quality lacking. Steaks tasted like liver. Salad dressing was very watery.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Good, but, be forewarned about the incessant alcohol hawking at each/every event. And the Bingo is ripe to extract large sums from your wallet, with scams/caveats at these events.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
For the most part, excellent. But you need to stay on top of the concierge when ordering/requesting stuff over the phone. Dining room staff very attentive. Stateroom stewards, for the most part, also very attentive. Announcements hard to hear, except for the Assistant-Cruise Director hawking Bingo. Windows somewhat dirty or water stained, making buffet window viewing difficult.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Overall, ship was clean. No large quiet viewing areas. No theater. Stateroom TVs are something from the 70's; small (no LCDs or plasmas here).

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Balcony room very good. Bed very comfortable. Space around king bed adequate, but luggage rack/tray almost non-existent, making it difficult to extract cloths that are not hung/stored in closet.
