Wonderful cruise by perry042

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

6 countries with two sea days.  An amazing experience of architecture, history, beautiful scenery and art.  This was a wonderful cruise.  Two days in st. Petersburg was the highlight but Talinn Estonia was a close second.  Be sure to book a walking tour of Talinn.  The old town is wonderful experience of medieval life as it was then.  REally enjoyed this cruise.  Wish there had been more time in the ports as all aboard time was 3:30 most days and that just doesn't give you much time to see more than one thing.  Wish it could have been 6 PM.

Family Vacation by tmarkste

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Favorite part of this trip, the many ports of call. It was a great way to be introduced to so many countries and unpacking just once! The staff on board were helpful the entertainment was amazing. We enjoyed the staff and Henry in the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar especially! The food selection was pretty good. Would like to have seen fresher/lighter options of food in more of the restaurants. By the end of the trip we were craving fresh salads and fruits. The best place for them was the Market where finding seating could be a challenge. The coffee in the sit down restaurants left a lot to be desired.

fun Baltic cruise by Cruiser740

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

enjoyed the trip overall. Best cities were Copenhagen and Tallin.

Food in main dining restaurants was very good. Was not impressed with Cagney's or LaCucina specialty restaurants.

Cruise Virgin, enjoyed losing mine! by JimTexas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Overall it was a wonderful experience, special kudos to Mike our great waiter/Asst. Maitre'd (all of us thought before he got his promotion that this man needed to be higher up in the organization)  Two days later he was!  Probably our excellent perception of staff.  He added so much to our trip with his professionalism and humor.  Next kudos to Eugene our room steward, he did an superb job taking care of us.

Only things that need improving--entertainment, language skills of restaurant staff and a suggestion--could the ladies serving in the restaurants tone down the perfume, it overwhelmed the food experience.

The food was good in all the venues we visited with a weakness in the sushi/oriental area, there seemed to be grit in the veggies, don't know what it was?

Hope to see you on a Norwegian cruise soon!!

Now egoism Dtar 9 night Baltic cruise by Retired2014

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Ports, balcony stateroom, evening shows.  Excellent staff on board, mark the cruise director is hilarious!!   Some groups cruising together we're quite rude on board and in the ports .  We all know who they are and out a negative air to traveling .

Fabulous fjords, even in May! by songbird816

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

I have used this one cruise, through the fjords, as my "baseline" when checking for sales or special prices on various cruise websites.  I used to live in northern Germany, and spent weekends a lot in Copenhagen.  I had been to Oslo and Bergen, but never had seen the fjords.  This was one of the most beautiful trips I have ever made, to include Alaska and Glacier Bay, and the Canadian Rocky Mts.  We sailed from Copenhagen, so the first day out is at sea, which is nice, especially if you didn't book time in Copenhagen prior to the trip.  The shore excursions I chose were great.  I did the full day excursion out of Flam (pronounced like floam), which include train and then a coach.  In between we had lunch at the famous Stahlheim Hotel, with a million dollar Onesco view, from the terrace.  The only disappointment I had was that the land tour company doing NCL's land shore excursions booked 4 buses at that amazing hotel at the same time, which created a huge amount of confusion, and too little time at the hotel to really see the view and the hotel itself, not to mention that wonderful cuisine.  What I had understood that they were going to do was reverse the itinerary for that one day, so that 2 of the buses went by coach up and then train down.  That didn't happen.  But still it was a fabulous day, and the scenery is just amazing.  People in Scandinavia are lovely - open, friendly, and helpful.  This trip is probably better, as far as weather goes, in June, July and August.  But those are also peak times for tourists, and therefore there are more people at each port stop.  Personally, I loved the cold weather especially in Geiranger.  We saw everything from snow at 1500 meters to flowers blooming and warm weather, in Bergen.  The entertainment onboard was wonderful, to include 2 couples doing acrobatics from the Moscow Circus.  You normally would have to go to Russia to see that level of artistry, for acrobatics, to include flying.  This is a tour that is sometimes coupled with NCL's Baltics trip.  I have been to Russia several times, so I was happy with a couple of days on my own in Copenhagen, prior to the cruise.  I now want to do the longer cruise up to the North Cap!  NCL is shifting this fjords cruise to Hamburg, Germany, which is about the same distance south of the ports we visited.  I just hope the size of the ships for the fjords does not increase.  I would do this cruise again, but also feel Copenhagen is a better city than Hamburg, for tourism, prior or after the cruise.  As always, great service and food on board!!  I recommend this itinerary highly!!

Baltic Capitals Cruise by scolp1951

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

The idea for this cruise was started by my brother and his wife last year.  Before I knew it, they had rounded up several couples to cruise with us.  Needless to say, I was not looking forward to the long flight from Seattle, but as the trip dates approached and detailed coordination was taking place regarding the port excursions, I was getting more and more excited about it.

We had been on the Norwegian Star on our Panama Canal crossing cruise, which we thoroughly enjoyed, but I'll have to say that this experience on the same ship was a bit different.  For one thing, I thought the cruise director (Mark) lacked enthusiasm, although my experience and enjoyment were not dependent on his actions.  I was expecting to enjoy the nightly Atrium entertainment with a glass of wine, but the area had been changed to a coffee bar.  The evening shows at Stardust did not appeal to me this time, but we found alternate venues for entertainment.

Due to weather conditions, our port stop in Stockholm, Sweden, was canceled.  That was not anybody's fault, but I was nevertheless disappointed in missing the opportunity to see Sweden.

Overall, Norwegian did its best to maintain its high standards that I have come to expect.

Norweigan Fjords by ldyflyr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This is an amazing itinerary. The views were breathtaking. The ship is nice. This is a nice cruise for a relaxing week at sea. The specialty dining was great. It was easy to get a reservation on this ship. There were times when the service was quite slow. The bars were well staffed. There were plenty of nice areas to sit and relax.

Morwegian Star Fjords of Norway Cruise by ecblinder

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

We loved the cruise itinerary.  The ports we visited were beautiful and interesting and the amount of time we were in the port towns allowed us to do alot of exploration in each location. The crew could not have been friendlier or more attentive especially our cabin steward.   We felt the excursions were very pricey especially the Flamm Railroad excursion.  We purchased our own tickets for the railway at a great savings.  Also the transfer to the airport was very pricey.  We also feel the Market Cafe could offer some healthier options.  The food in the specialty restaurants and Versailles was very good.  The cabins could us e a little refurbishing.  I loved the beverage and specialty dining packages.  I really appreciated a very small invoice at the completion of my cruise!

The good and not so good of Norwegian Star by bfulkerson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Transatlantic

NCL seems to be reducing the quality of the cruises in the mid-size ships.  Our mini-suite was the same size as a balcony room.  The closets were in a terrible location.  The workout gym is great...lots of equipment.  Overall, the food is pretty good....only specialty restaurant used was Cagney's...and it is Very Good.  When showing up for games, such as trivia.  Often there are no prizes given.  NCL provides an activity card and if you have shown up to enough activities and gotten enough initials, you might get a small token at the end of the cruise.  The entertainment was the same shows we have seen on the Sun and a previous cruise on the Star (six months earlier).

Transatlantic on Norwegian Star by garciamcn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Transatlantic

I have nothing but rave reviews for this cruise, Starting with our state room, which was a balcony cabin located in the aft of the ship on deck 9. The cabin was spacious enough for two people even though it would acommodate three. Two adults and a child would be comfortable but more than two adults in this cabin would be too crowded. The cabins on two sides of our cabin were suites and I'm sure could acommodate more people and were more spacious costing more.

The freestyle dining was nice. Meals in the two dining rooms were very good with plenty of choices to please everyone's taste. Sometimes the service was a bit slow. I'm not sure what the reason behind the slow service.

The evening entertainment each night was excellent. I'm not sure how they pulled it off, but their performances were some of the best I have seen on cruises.

When we left Tampa we discovered that the ship was carrying less than half its capacity of passengers. As a result the dining rooms, the theaters, the bars and all public places on the ship were never crowded.

Half way into the cruise,I was having difficulty sleeping because of my cabin mate's snoring and I would continuously wake him to ask him to roll over in hopes that he would stop snoring. He went to guest services to ask if it would be possible to get a second cabin. To our surprise, they offered us a cabin for the remaining six nights for only $100. Well worth it for a good nights sleep for the both of us.

i would highly recommend this cruise to anyone wanting a transatlantic cruise with ports of call being Bermuda and Punta Delgata.

Sheila Herzliche Grüße Christiane Gottli

Competence at all levels by sfsachs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Transatlantic

The crew and staff of the Norwegian Star did a terrific job on the repositioning cruise from Tampa to Copenhagen. From the excellent and attentive service of Dewa, our cabin steward, to the top deck service provided by Revishon "sunshine" to the entertaining and knowledgeable captain the cruise was thoroughly enjoyable.  We ate in all the complementary restaurant as well as three of the supplemental ones and they were all excellent with superb service and quality food. We used the spa daily with steam and saunas.

If not for our tight schedule, we would have booked for a continuation of an additional week to the fjords.

Sharon was the best. She was informative, knowledgeable and prompt in her replies to any calls we made to her. If she did not know the answer to weird questions we had, she got them promptly and called us back.

Service to Remember by VeteranCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 16th cruise, and our 2nd with Norwegian. Last year we cruised on the Norwegian Sun. It was an affordable, but an average cruise. This year, because of the value, and because we were booking for two of my husband's siblings and their spouses, we decided to try Norwegian again. This year we sailed on the Norwegian Star, and what a difference. The bar service at all the bars and poolside was absolutely wonderful. (Last year, we had quite a few problems getting a drink at all poolside) Meals were good, and although we did have an issue with service one night in one of the main dining rooms, it was made right quickly and properly. All ship personnel were helpful and friendly. My husband said it was due to the captain running a tight ship. Whatever the reason, as long as the beverage package continues we will choose Norwegian again.

Good cruise by davidherman64

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great food and entertainment, the reason for the 3 rating is the beds were real hard and room was really small but we did have an inside stateroom. Staff was friendly. We had the drink package that was included in the trip, but to get a drink you usually had to go to the bar to get drinks, the waiters were there but didn't come around very often. Overall it was a good cruise.
