Review summary
The NCL Star broke down in Sweden and every one lost flights. connections it was a nightmare, they handled the situation terribly. I'm still in shock of how disorganized everything turned out. I had so many wonderful experiences in each city that ending the cruise in such an unpleasant manner put a damper to the whole vacation.

Ship tip
Stay away from raffles, gimmicky promotions, the gift shop has ridiculously expensive items (allegedly reduced). In short buy everything outside the cruise.

I was on that 25June Baltic cruise on the Norwegian Star. On the return leg of the trip from Stockholm to Copenhagen, there was a technical problem with one of the diesels and the departure was delayed. The captain did announce several times through the PA system what was going on as they were trying to resolve the issue. He did explained that the rules require that if the ship was still docked after a certain time, it cannot leave until sunrise the next morning due to rules prohibiting navigating in the dark. I was up at around 3am, and noticed the ship moving. That was the earliest time available. The next day, around 1pm, the captain and the chief engineer made themselves available at the Spinnaker Lounge to answer questions from the public. A lot of folks forget that the captain is an employee and needs instructions from the NCL home office.
During disembarkation, I was on the 6th deck below the stairs around the Gatsby bar. Guests were prioritized according to their urgency for connecting flights. The crew gave out numbers from 1 to 7, depending on when they had to be at the airport. Everyone else, including I who was an Easy-Off had to wait. (I already had a hotel booked in CPH because I was staying there for 2 nights anyway). One thing that was lacking was public announcements about the process for disembarkation, because evidently, the situation was fluid and had changed from the original written instructions that was passed out the night before. But I didn't see any fights or altercations, although they may have happened elsewhere.
Throughout the cruise, I never had an unpleasant encounter with any member of the crew, either at the front desk or in the restaurants.
In my opinion the engine problem was freak bad event, and I feel sorry for those with missed flights and for NCL, but I had a good time and would still go on another cruise on this ship in the future. In fact, a few days after I got back home, I went to my local community dance and found a lady who will be going on the same Baltic cruise on the Star three months later in September. I told her "You will have a great time. Don't forget to bring your dance shoes."
