First time with Norwegian, not the last! The crew made sure of that!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Good, but some issue with computer to check people not born in the USA
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Clean, good food, but started being repetitive after 3 days
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Not much of an activities ship.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Most of the shows were great. The magician was long-winded and flubbed a couple of times. The crew dancing shows were fantastic.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
First time on NCL, definitely not the last! This was the best crew we have ever experienced and more than 1 of them went out of their way to make our experience memorable!
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Older ship, but that added to the pleasure - no screaming kids in theme parks or common areas
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
A little smaller than RCL, smaller balcony as well, but no issues and the shower was not cramped. Water pressure was great.
Ship tip
This is not a ship for kids. It's a ship for cruising and relaxing.
Don't take a tour, it's a waste of money. Just stroll to the salmon run stream just past the totem park and then around town and if you can, go see the church but FYI you can't get to see much anymore.
Problems with gangplanks at low tide caused delays getting out. Security guy was new to the ship and barked like he was the captain but we eventually made enough noise that he allowed us to step up on to the alternate gangplank and then down the slope to the pier. The tide was higher on return so the main gangplank was the only one in use but it was still steeper than usual. More planning needed here. The kayak excursion was great.
Interesting and easy to get around. The NCL-organized 5-glacier seaplane excursion fills up or leaves only 1 seat - go directly to Wings Airways and book the same trip with more time options. Also, for whale-watching, this is the best place to do this on the whole trip - excursions from other ports even headed down to Juneau to see whales.
Too much time to do nothing much. The whale watching trip was ok, directly from the dock. The captain was respectful for maintaining distance and the crew were great.
Not much here, captain decided not worth the risk of current and ice, although on a different cruise in a bigger ship, we got right in thru much larger icebergs. But safety is always a good thing.
Way too little time spent here! A lot of people were grumbling about the time wasted to shuttle from Ward Cove and then the bus drops you off in a dusty carpark and you still have to walk to town! Add the time to walk and shuttle back and you have almost no time to enjoy the place. Poor planning on this one.
Arrive 8pm, depart Midnight. No time to explore and the best was a bus tour, which at night was so funny with the driver saying on the left and on the right and all you see is darkness. And then he leaves you by the museum, which is closed at night, for an hour so you can be a crowd of tourists around the bridge and hotel. More poor planning on this one.
