Review summary

We chose this cruise based on the itinerary and not the cruise line. The ship needs a desperate update and maintenance. The staff needs more training and work on consistency of standards.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was decent, but the specialty restaurants (Carney’s, Shogun, and Teppanyaki) were certainly not special. Had a 4 dining package and glad we didn’t pay extra for it. Shogun’s portions were tiny. Carney’s ribeyes and lamb were very tough. Teppanyaki show was good but the food was bland and chicken was too tough to eat. Beverage package was great! Most bartenders poured very strong drinks!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Only went to one show, Soul, singers were not that great

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Service was very inconsistent. Had some very good servers and a couple of terrible ones. One server in main dining room practically yelled at me to order my dinner. He said “FOOD, FOOD?” At least 4 dinners, we did not have bar service in the main dining rooms. The server had to take our orders with delays.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Oldest ship in fleet and it was easy to see. Lots of rust on railings and worn surfaces. Outdated finishes with a very Asian theme in all dining areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
The bathroom was GROSS. The toilet had a black ring at the water line. The tile was outdated, repaired in several places and loose in the corners. The cabin doors are painted mauve and had old seashells on them. Very 80’s looking.

Ship tip

norwegian needs to update this ship. Our first cruise on Norwegian and not likely to repeat based on the condition of the ship and inconsistency of the service.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5

Iraklion (Heraklion), Crete

3 out of 5
We walked the city. If we return, I would take a tour of the island. Did not enjoy Iraklion.

Rhodes, Greece

5 out of 5
We walked the city and really enjoyed it even though it rained.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5
We booked a private tour to Souion which was beautiful.

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
We walked the town which was quite windy. We returned to ship via the water taxi (2 euro) which was awesome!

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
We booked a private photography tour and LOVED it! Beautiful island! Lots of things to see at every corner!

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
What a gorgeous island! Another private tour to several diverse places on the island.

Messina, Sicily

4 out of 5
Not much to do in Messina itself. We booked a private tour to Mount Etna and Taormina.

Naples, Italy

4 out of 5
We had been to Naples before so we booked a private tour to Herculaneum, Veiled Christ and a seaside lunch.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were independent travelers and walked right off at our schedule.

It's on older model ship. For the very low price you paid and ports you visited you shouldn't be complaining

If you went for the itinerary and knew it was the oldest ship and not recently renovated, I am not sure why you were so disappointed in the ship...

I went on this cruise ship last April and thought it was wonderful! No complaints whatsoever. I also believe cruising is not for you.
