panama canal trip by jdvsdv604573

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This was a fantastic cruise and October was the perfect month!

The Pearl is an easy ship to navigate and well maintained.

Lots of activities on sea days and the food was super.

This cruise is one of the best. by oyerly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This was our 7th cruise, the 4th  on Norwegian and the second time on the Pearl. It was just perfect in every way. The cruise staff was wonderful to us and the ship was kept clean all the time, from our cabin to all the common areas.

We enjoyed the shows onboard this time.  I am glad they were good as dinner and shows go together.

Loved going through the locks at Panama.  What was so amazing was how little room was left in the lock once the ship was in place.  The Pearl is a Panamax ship meaning it could not be any wider or longer to fit.

The weather was great the whole time, even though it was at the end of the rainy season there with only minimal rain one day of the trip. All in all I would encourage cruisers to go there and see for themselves.  Mary Oyerly

The quality of food and service in the free style restaurants was poor. The buffet had better food BBQ on pool deck was phenomenal as well as the specialty restaurants.

Wonderful Ports, Crew, and Ship by rosemariemiller

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

HappyThe NCL Pearl cruise from San Francisco to Miami through the Panama Canal was a delight. Going under the Golden Gate Bridge was an awesome start and the pots in Western Mexico were very nice. One exceptional excursion was to the Las Caletas Hideawy. Best day we've had in awhile - the staff on the catamaran to get us there was spectacular, as was the beach and lunch when we got there. Highly recommended. Going through the canal was amazing; we learned an enormous amount of info about the canal and had a bird's eye view. Didn't know that only few cruise ships go through. We were a sensation - a filled viewing terrace and pictures taken by the workers. I loved watching the trains pull us and seeing how we narrowly fit! The crew & staff on board the ship were so personable! NCL is doing something right with them! The ship was super clean, newly renovated, and well laid out. We saw the captain frequently and he was very accommodating. Great trip!

Great cruise. by petem6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The cruise was great.  They wanted to sell us A $250 credit towards another cruise.  When we told them we already have one they were curious why did not apply that on this cruise.  I could not answer that, can you?

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This is our first time to take the cruise, then we did enjoy the place and so many nice food, people who work in there are very friendly, the only thing we dislike is the bed looks like clean,  but my parents got some marks on their neck on next day morning  looks like bitten by the insert?? anyway, there had very limit entertainment  base on the one day trip? will try a little long trip one to see what is the different. Thanks for all sever they are great.Yummy

Don't go for the food. by zebismydog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Last year I booked 2 cruises w NCL  for this year. We were so disappointed by the food and service staff on our 1st cruise we wanted to cancel our 2nd. Even with travel insurance and a note from a doctor (my mother has been on hospice for a few months now) we would to have forfeited about $400 so we decided to go with low expectations and still managed to be disappointed by the food. Quality-low. Selection-limited. By the time we found a table, our food was COLD. I will say the fresh fruit, cheeses and breads were very good. The desserts were UNEDIBLE. I tried a least a bite of every desert and didn't find anything in the "free-style cafeteria" that was worth a second bite other than the strawberry poundcake. My husband and I had apple pie that we had to spit out. How can you mess up apple pie???

What you will love is your cabin steward. They are just wonderful! Don't forget to tip them when you leave.

Make sure to plan excursions. If you can avoid booking thru the ship, you will save hundreds of dollars. Just Google your ports of call.

It is maddening that since March they have started charging for room service.

Also, I found the elevators to be very dirty. Gross. There were always grease marks where people would lay there heads against the mirrored walls. Ick!

We enjoyed the ship entertainment very much.

Not much happening in the lounges at night. Karaoke open to the bowling lanes, just bad design.

Also, a tip. I purchased a small wifi plan and parceled out my time to last the 7 days. I kept a close eye on the counter. Suddenly on about the 4th day, my minutes were suddenly gone and I was offered unlimited wifi for a price for the remainder of the cruise. Why was this not offered on the first day. I really felt cheated by that. We all know they will make their money on alcoholic beverages and other "nickel and diming" practices but I just felt ROBBED by that.SadAngry

This is a wonderful way to see a lot in Alaska and I will go again but never again with NCL.

Great experience by chucks579

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Being an Industrial Designer, business consultant, I always view every event in life as "what is the consumer experience".

Our cruise provided a wonderful overall experience - the service, entertainment, food was superb. In addition, the crew abd staff really adopted the "family" posture to further the warm consumer experience.

It  would be interesting if all hosting, eating establishments adopted the "cruise line" level of service and expectations.

Very beautiful, very enjoyable, very relaxing, outstanding service by royesprague

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The 7 day Alaska Cruise was very beautiful, with such majestic sights,, especially Glacier Bay.  It was very enjoyable to be catered to each day, and to visit the SE Alaska cities/villages, with outstanding tour guides.  We relaxed, had breakfast in the room, and especially enjoyed the Freestyle dining - such a plus.  The service was superb and prompt, and so friendly.  We enjoyed two movies, many of the demonstrations - simply had a great time.  THANKS so much.

Great Option for your Inside Passage journey by shoremax

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

NCL's freestyle cruising is the perfect match for Alaska's casual frontier experience.  We went at the end of the season and the ship was clean and the crew was energetic and engaging.  Plenty of diverse activities on board from trivia to Yoga. The shows were fine but not as elaborate as some of the Mega ships. The arrival times on most of the stops are odd but this is simply due to the distances traveled but not seeing Victoria in the daylight is still a bit disappointing.  Be sure to get the upgraded dining package for at least a few nights.  It is well worth it.  It's not that the included food is bad it's just that the specialty restaurants are excellent.

Thought the cruise and ship were very nice. Service was excellent, entertainment was extraordinary, food was good, but not exciting. Weather in Alaska was miserable, but probably due to our timing.

First Cruise, great experience by eaxmark

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed the excitement  and instructions of the staff at the port and their helpfulness for the inexperienced. The stateroom was larger than we expected since we thought it would be tiny. Although small, it is organized and we did not spend much time there! The performances were great, the "anytime" dining was helpful, the food varied and tasty. Although it rained every day, we were able to see the glaciers and the presentation of the National Park Rangers was great!  We tried to pack too much into our short time on shore and missed the first "load' of passengers for the Best of Juneau excursion which gave us only 20 minutes at the Medenhall Glacier and that is not enough!  our whale watching was GREAT! good captain and guide, friendly, helpful, informative.  the fact that it was the second to the last cruise in Alaska for the year made the prices better at the shops and we were pleased.  I'd go again....if we had the $$!

Wonderful Scenery by nhiggins1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was a very nice cruise, and Norwegian took good care of us.  The service was excellent and the food was excellent.

I felt there could have been more entertainment on the ship, also the ship was a little smaller than I hoped for but was still amazing.  Part of the problem however for me thinking the ship was small was that I had previously cruised on the Allure of the seas and that was a massive ship, and I think that all the cruise lines have smaller ships for Alaska so that they can get into the ports easier.

NCL Pearl is a nice clean ship and our steward was awesome.   Room TV's are quite small with few channels to select from.  Food was great and restaurants were nice with exception of the Garden Café and it was a traffic night mareHappy
