Review summary
The trip itself was great and a trip to Alaska is what everyone should do. Just not on the Norwegian Pearl. The ship seemed very old and run down. The glass and windows were very dirty and has water spots all over them. You couldn't take pictures through them. The paint was peeling all over our balcony. The bed was very lumpy. Throughout the entire cruise they are selling something, makes it feel like a hustle rather than a vacation. The communication was very poor. We never knew what level to get off on at the ports and it seemed to take forever to arrange. But there was some up sides too. The staff is great and they work very hard. Our room steward was fantastic. Food was average , but not very hot. There was some GI illness and I got it, but the medical staff was great and really took quick action. Overall the cruise was great and the location was perfect, just wished we could have been on a different ship.

Wow, that's a real surprise. Exactly the opposite of my experience. I'm guessing you got aboard immediately after one of those rock and roll at sea charter cruises. Try one of Pearl's sister ships (Jade for example) of around the same age and see if it's in the same condition and as poorly maintained as you describe.
