Talk to the crew, it's so much fun! They'll also give you tips, such as when it's possible (and better) to disembark from the aft of the ship, as the forward is very crowded!

Most certainly sail with Norwegian but DO NOT FLY with them. Purchase your own flights and take comfort in knowing that an array of willing drivers will transport you to and from the Pier. (There were multiple lanes of yellow cabs, lyfts, ubers and shuttles.

Book NCL excursions in Columbia. Traffic is a nightmare. Most NCL excursions were late returning to the pier but the ship waited. There was a rumor that several passengers were left who were not on NCL excursions.

Do not expect this to be like Disney, Carnival, or Royal Caribbean. You have to understand their whole concept of - “freestyle cruising.” They fully expect their cruisers to just do their own thing, and are not in the business of scheduling shows and activities for you 24/7. If you are one who likes some structure and plan to the day, this is cruise is probably not for you. You have to be okay with and appreciate being bored sometimes.

Service was below that of other ships I had been on. Room steward couldn’t be found anywhere, you had to ask for water refills in the main dining room. Bring lotion as you are required to wash your hands every time you went into the buffet.

We found out we did not like the mega-ship free cruising approach utilized by NCL. Reservations were a hassle but without them you had long waits.
