Norwegian Joy

12 Night Panama Canal Partial Transit (Miami Roundtrip)

Review summary

My spouse passed away on this Norwegian ship after 1 day on a 12 day cruise. Norwegian dumped me off the ship in a foreign country without any care. They refuse to refund any of the $4000 paid to them. Then they have a nerve to bill me over $7000 for medical services. This company has a bunch of scumbags in Miami running it. You can never get through when you call customer relations, you leave messages and someone may reply by email after you leave about 10. Most unprofessional cruise line ever, I wish i had researched them more beforehand. WILL NEVER SAIL WITH THIS HORRIBLE GREEDY COMPANY AGAIN. I hope they keep having problems and their stock plummets, and they go out of business, they deserve it how they treat people.

Sorry for your loss, but most cruise lines operate this way. They should be more sympathetic. That's just horrible.

My father in law suffered a massive stroke while on a Princess cruise a few years ago. It happened half way between Hawaii and Samoa, basically in the middle of nowhere. He was medivacked to New Zealand where he passed away. There was the same procedure as you went through - bill settled up before disembarkation, etc. The total expense for transport and medical care was in excess of $100,000 (yes, you read that right). Thank goodness for insurance. I don’t think NCL’s procedures were any different than Princesses. They offered no condolences as well, even though my in laws had cruised with them over 50 times. I think some sort of correspondence from them would have been appreciated. I am truly sorry for loss.

We had a death in the family and had to disembark in Cozumel, Port authorities came on the ship, escorted us to a hotel ,picked us up the next morning, took us to the airport and we couldn’t even leave the ship till we had a flight booked from Cozumel back to Texas so sorry to hear about this, my heart goes out to you

Sorry for your loss, that's terrible. However always buy travel insurance just to be safe. Cruise lines can accommodate basic medical needs but nothing more. Their policy is that passengers disembark at the next port if serious medical conditions occur.

Their letter and other comments still do not explain why you were disembarked from the ship. Their letter infers you left on your own accord.

Sorry this happen to you, it doesn't sound like they had any compassion for you and your situation.

Owlcanyon    5 years ago

this company has no compassion, they care about their money, that is all. I just attached letter i got via email. Keep on mind, Nobody ever returned my call even once, this “guest relations coordinator” never made any attempt to call. This is so unprofessional its unreal. Something small like my story wont made headlines like their current problem where hundreds of people just got sick from the Norco virus. And no to everyone who asked, we did not have trip insurance

Sorry about your loss. I to can not understand how they can disembark you when you paid for the cruise. What was their reasoning.?

That's is just awful how very sad and traumatic for you :-( at bit of compassion goes a long way ... however this is why you need insurance we have heard some horrible storeys and what I boils down too is it's just a Buisness like any other . My sisters husband passed away in America a couple of yrs ago at the end of there vacation from Australia he passed away in California and the airline (Qantas ) Australias national carrier ...wanted more money to bring his case and things back to Australia as it was extra for my sister and he wasn't there of course even though he had a return ticket ... it was unbelievable for any human being to think that this is ok !!!! No money was returned even with a death certificate!!!!by the airline.. However then the insurance paid up for all out of pocket expenses that my sister had to endure .. including the cremation and return of his remains ... and cruise buddies ask why have insurance we don't need it !!!!!!!!! Well it's not until something happens that you realise that's it's available for a reason hope ur insurance fixes up all your out of pocket ... and so very sorry for your loss but it's not just this cruise company it's any business and it's disgusting to say the least :-((((

I don't understand why they kicked you off the ship. Sorry for your loss. But we need more information to fully understand.

So sorry for your loss. Hopefully you had a good travel insurance policy that will at least cover the costs you mentioned. Tragedies do happen, so it is always important to have coverage when traveling.
