Review summary

Fun cruise with lots of things to do or none, if you prefer to disengage. Smooth sailing, efficiently designed for passenger usage.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The airport transfer was laughable. We stood waiting for nearly an hour in the heat before cattle car herding onto buses. The driver was not familiar with the port and took several wrong turns, stopped to get directions and then backtracked to locate the boat. Do it again, out of San Pedro, I would take Lyft or Uber, infinitely more comfortable and faster. The embarkation at the port was routine lines but the staff were very pleasant ant efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The entire dining experience was great. Waitservice was the best I've experienced on either land or sea. Buffets despite their variations, become routine, shaded by consumer overindulgence that recognizes that no one normally eats this way. Specialty dining was elegant and satisfying. Food was well prepared and presented. Hygiene was emphasized at every quarter, with sanitizer dispensers everywhere and cheerful staff with spray bottles to pleasantly disense sanitizer. There were singing staffers wandering around dispensing coffee in the mornings at the buffet. Lots of window seats for eating and watching.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Fitness center could have been larger, it was always used. Equipment appeared well maintained, though the newness of the boat may have influenced the condition. Pools and deck areas were fully utilized. The observation lounge was peaceful and elegant. We didn't use lots of available activities, laser tag, go carts, water slides, more designed for younger patrons.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Quality shows, with talented performers. It's not Las Vegas, but given the small venue had well qualified entertainment.

Children's Programs

No kids on trip with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Great service. Room was cleaned regularly and staff were pleasant and accommodating. Long cruise but our housekeeper seemed to be ever-present and working the entire time without break. The obligatory service charge now added to the bill to cover tips may reduce the incentive to do things like the fancy "towell creatures" we have had on other cruises. These were superfluous to the cruise experience but may have been important parts of the performance to earn tips.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The boat passenger design appeared to be efficient as there were congestion. The boat was spotlessly maintained. Our cabin location was close to aft elevators and most of the restaurants and features we enjoyed. I paced it of and the buffet is nearly the size of a football field. There was no real pressure for elevators, except briefly on shore days. Smoking is prohibited except on the top deck aft starboard, so no contaminated air. We have been on cruises where smoke from balconies of other cabins swept back to ours.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were situated in a balcony stateroom aft on the port side of the boat. Great setting, adequate space though would have preferred a chest of drawers type storage for the contents of our suitcases. The bed was comfortable, couch not so much but it was after all, an alternative bed. We brought extra hangers which were very useful as the room hangers are connected to the closet. Bathroom was efficient, will lighted, and had adequate storage space.

Ship tip

The Have had the best view for the Panama Canal Crossing

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
Based on our transfer experience, apparently hard to find. Shaded queuing areas before the embarkation area was comfortable.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Did not visit port

Rainy and required tender. We avoided the hassle.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
Enjoyable city tour of about 4.5 hours. Tour guide was excellent, well trained, informative and engaging.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Walked off boat to search local area. Waste of time.Next time would take a tour or taxi, nothing is close for walking.

Acapulco, Mexico Did not visit port

Heavy rain most of day cleared late in the afternoon but ship departure was early

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

3 out of 5
Despite being with a large cruise, I was nervous about touring Guatemala, as an unstable country with high crime rates and only shopped for souvenirs nearby. Others reported they enjoyed their excursions.

Panama Canal Transit

5 out of 5
Nice experience, relaxing and historically significant. A canal authority expert narrated the transit. Amazing array of stories.

Oranjestad, Aruba

4 out of 5
Shopping only, didn't do excursion. Have done excursions here in the past which were interesting.

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
No excursion, just disembarked.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Just mass and somewhat orderly disembarkation. Long lines but air conditioned.Facial scan replaced customs which expedited process. Bags easy to find.
