Second cruise ever. First out of Venice. Back balcony. Loved Venice, Corfu and Santorini. Olympia was a must (one-time only) but could have survived without visiting Mykonos.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Dropped the bags, got our cards, went to Venice, came back and walked aboard.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
This cruise was our second one but our first European. The first one was Alaska, 4 years before this one, so it would not be fair to provide a comparative food rating. The only comment I will make is that we ate at the Moderno on both cruises. The food seemed to be better on the Alaska cruise. Buffet food was good.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
This cruise was a summer cruise. The pool deck was over-crowded making pools inaccessible. Liked the fitness center though.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Game show line up had not changed. Newly wed game, etc. Cruisers will know what I am talking about. Ship was filled to the hilt so all entertainment venues were always crowded. Enjoyed the shows though.
Children's Programs
Did not bring kids.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Friendly, no matter the area of service.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Well-maintained ship. Personnel was doing some touch-ups here and there that did not bother us in the least. Excellent layout. All areas were easy to reach; no long distance running like one would encounter on the mega ships.
First time to Venice. Will go back. Flew in the morning of the cruise so there was not enough time to spend in the city. One funny thing we noticed was a radar trap set up to catch speeding boats.
Loved Corfu. Corfu town (old town) was a bit crowded but we expected that so it did not bother us. Went to see the palace Empress Elisabeth of Austria had used as summer residence. Would have loved to have gone to one of the more remote beaches on the north-east side of the island.
One of our most favorite islands in Greece. The architecture is wonderful. It was a tender port but the local tender operators were incredibly quick. We knew that Oia was going to be a no-go because of traffic. So after a day at a beach, we spent some time in Thera before taking the winding donkey stairs back down to the pier.
The windy rock of Mykonos is widely known for its nightlife. After a jeep tour and some time at a beach, we had some local food (skipped shopping) and went back to the Jade. There was some real excitement when a ferry ship the size of the Jade was trying to hit us. Fortunately, our captain was up to the task.
Gateway to Olympia. Some shops, some restaurants but not much else to the town. Participated in one of the Olympia excursions. The tour guide seemed to prefer air-conditioned environments so he rushed us through the ruins. At the end, we missed his cattle call to the bus so he almost forgot to take us back to the ship.
