The best cruise by Famcrucero

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have no complaints about the ship's staff, they were always very professional and the service was very good, the housekeeper, the restaurants and other areas of the ship. I would go back to travel with them. The embarkation was a little disorganized but the disembarkation was fast and very well organized. Freestyle is the best, thank you Norwegian Cruise Line.

Not Horrible by wdfltrdr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Embarkation in Miami left much to be desired. They give appointments like ours was 9 am. They didn't even open until around 10:30. The building was packed to the hilt when they finally began boarding around 12:20. Was not a good 1st impression to say the least Disembarkation was a breeze though when we returned. We were off the ship and through immigration literally in minutes. We took our own bags and that made it easy. If you check them I suspect it will be much longer

Newbie Cruiser by KD18

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First time cruising, had no idea what to expect. We have traveled around the world and the Norwegian service was outstanding to the point that we booked another cruise. Be open to new experiences, appreciate and respect the hard work of the crew, and meet new friends. Food, Friends, Drinks, Sunshine, Rymthic Sounds, Sunrise, Sunsets.

Exciting, fun, and lots of great memories. by darrelllee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall, really enjoyed our vacation. Brief summary below: Costa Maya: If you're trying to find it on a map, look up Mahahual, Mexico. We did the Chacchoben Tour separate from Norwegian. Booked through Native Choice. The tour was informative. I'm a photographer so I found the tour a little too structured, would have like more time to ourselves for pictures. The port itself is cool. Artificial for sure, with all the stores and swimming pool. I guess it's fine if you don't plan on exploring via excursion. Harvest Caye: This is a resort owned by NCL. It's very clean. We did the beach first, which was nice. The sand there isn't soft, so be prepared to have your feet poked by pebbles and broken sea shells. We then went to the pool which was AWESOME. Hard to explain but it's big, crystal clear, and it's more welcoming than the pool on the ship. The Getaway ship pool is small and gross. It was a great port to rest for the next day's excursions. Roatan: Probably our favorite stop. We did the dolphin encounter (not the swimming one). This particular dolphin encounter allows you to take your own photos which is great. You just can't take your own posed photos with the dolphin. But the price for all the photos they take is reasonable, especially if this is a once in a life time excursion. The drive through Roatan was nice because you really got to see how locals lived. It gives you more global perspective of how ppl live outside the U.S. The port is really good, very close to the ship, so barely any extra walking so you can easily get back on ship to have lunch and back out to shop. Cozumel: Also a great port, and probably the best place to shop in terms of store volume. It's basically an outdoor mall, however, every other store has the same stuff. We did the easy seaside snorkel. And it was easy. The location they take you is a man made reef so don't expect too much in terms of ocean life. you will definitely see fish and sea urchins. Staff was great and helpful. Food was good too (not included). Stateroom Our room could hear everything going on during the night show in the theater. Drumming was the most annoying. Could not get our young kids to sleep until after the last show ended (11pm). Difficult when you have to be rested for next day excursions. Splash Academy (Youth Program) We had some difficulty dealing with the staff the 1st day. They are very rigid with their rules. We wanted our my younger son to be together with his older brother and 2 older cousins since the younger one was turning 6 in a couple weeks. They didn't allow it so they had to be separated. It wasn't a big deal, but it sort of set the tone for things to come. We had a couple of other incidents that really left a bad taste. Hopefully it was just an isolated situation for us and everyone else had a great time.

It was okay by suzn002

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I'm of the opinion that if I have to choose a staff that really seem to love what they do vs luxury or decor....I'm going for service. The Getaway was nice but so chaotic. Just was not as enjoyable as the Carnival cruise lines.

Trip started well, finished poor. by blassetter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We arrived back at 3pm versus the 8am planned arrival due to crew member who jumped overboard. Cost us money to change flight that was 2pm. Waited 3 hours to use a phone, then half hour to connect (very poor internet, phone connections) to call airline to change flight and had to pay $129 for the change. No compensation from Norwegian even though it was their employee who caused delay.

Norwegian Getaway by gpederson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Far too many people. Will not travel this time of year again. We were in boarding group 1 but had to board with group 5 due to the system stating we had checked in within 3 seconds. We had to wait for new cards. Finally boarded, and got an eye-roll from the bus boy when asking where the restroom was. My husband asked twice (he is hard of hearing...but couldn’t understand). I asked because I had not understood what the bus boy was saying. He told me, then rolled his eyes. I realize people get frustrated, but I have a Traumatic Brain Injury and patience would have been appreciated.

Great Family Vacation - Western Caribbean by JMF77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Disembarkation score is giving me pause. We were late returning to Miami due to a crew member overboard, and we circled back to search for them. At the time, we presumed he had not survived, which was very sad. The reason I am giving a low score on on the disembarkation is due to the fact that NCL knew we would arrive in Miami late, yet they were not prepared to handle the chaos that would ensue as people ignored instructions on lining up, and they continued to allow people to use the stairs and elevators down to deck 7. Deck 7 became total chaos with ZERO "law". People were shouting at each other, being aggressive, and this delayed the exit even more. We saw only a few NCL workers, and NO OFFICERS. Again, this was all due to the fact we were late and normally people are sleeping when the ship arrives in Miami. While the circumstance was sad, NCL still knew and had time to plan for what to do. They didn't. Pure chaos. It took us 2.5 hours to exit deck 7 after we were asked to go there. I won't let that sour the trip ... overall it was amazing and we WILL do it again.

Very Relaxing Cruise by mcannizzaro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was certainly worth the price. It included a drink package, onboard credits, 3 specialty restaurants, and tips. Other that that, it was just a cruise. Rude people, small children running wild all day and teens running wild all night. Don't expect to get into the small adult pool or hot tubs because it is overrun with kids. One small pool for 4000 people. Ship is designed for families, as the entire pool deck is designed for kids. Way too many people.

NCL GETAWAY FAMILY CRUISE by kcorazon443

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Ship was excellent for families. Entertainment was hit or miss. Enjoyed Million Dollar Quartet but did not like their dance show Burn the Floor. Liked one comedian the other comedian was not very good. Like the Welcome Show did not like the End of cruise show. Food was just ok to good. I can not say one time on the entire cruise did I think a meal was excellent, but for having to serve 3000+ guests the food was ok to good. The ports were great. But I think that always have to do with the excursions. We had an ATV tour in Cozumel that was very good and a great snorkeling trip in Roatan.
