Review summary

This was the worst cruise on Norwegian line after 4 previous trips with them. Food & entertainment has gone down dramatically. They never pushed jewelry shops on St. Thomas (like Diamonds International) & little time off ship, especially getting dark early. It became very dangerous with stores closing. Some store owners said that they didn’t expect many shoppers considering the time of arrival. I understand that many cruise lines are trying to recover from Covid but that is no excuse for poor food quality & entertainment.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
OK, about the same as previous ones.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffets were very similar to previous Norwegian cruises. The Japanese & Brazilian were very good. The Italian restaurant was OK but should have offered more choices for the money. The Taste, Savor & Tropicana had some very good choices but the steaks were thin and tough & very small portions.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
They had the same games in the Atrium & didn’t have enough seating for the amount of people. I feel that the pool was not adequate for the amount of people also. I thought they would offer Pickleball rather than soccer shootouts.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
I’m use to much more live entertainment through out the ship, especially outside with the weather warming up. They had a lot of DJ music rather than a steel band or island music. Burn the Floor & Million Dollar Quartet were outstanding shows. Comedy & Hypnosis shows were fair only. Dueling Piano were good but better on previous cruises. Jamaican band was great. Piano player was good but did too many back to back shows, need more variety. Dana Monique was great but very limited engagements. Latin duo should have played in the Atrium & other parts of the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All ship staff were very accommodating, personable & professional.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
There wasn’t enough seating throughout the ship, period. The theater was cut in half, never did I have to have a reservation for a free show. There was always a 2 deck entry to the theater. The Bliss had great music but too small for the venue. Comparing the Escape & Breakaway, the layout and design was not right. Atrium, especially, was way too small for the amount of people looking for help & participating in the activities. Seating throughout the ship was at a premium especially when the weather was cold or rainy.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Inside room was a little smaller the other ships but clean.

PUNTA CANA (LA ROMANA), DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Fast Santo Damingo Old City tour was way too long of a drive to be an option. Only had a half an hour until we had to get back on the ship when we returned.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Long walk to get off the ship to the customs. Elevators aft were blocked when we were told to disembark. There was a lot of confusion during that time.
