Review summary

Overall excellent. Guest Services was appalling but everyone else fantastic . Ports were great except Rijeka and Santorini which seeemed like afterthoughts and poorly planned. The Venice miss was serious issue and really no excuse for the poor communication

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Fantastic. Right on no problems

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I actually saw an improvement from our TA cruise last year on Gem

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Gym is good , spa nice but overpriced

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great music. Improvement over last cruise. Shows were okay

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Horrible Guest Service experience. More cruises I take the more convinced GS doesn’t see itself as problem solvers but ineffective roadblocks. However the rest of the staff totally redeemed them. Starbucks crew fantastic as were wait staff and housekeeping

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We love the jewel class ships. Perfect size and well maintained. We felt overwhelmed on Epic in January. This is definitely the ship size for us

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Not a fan of the bathtub but room was clean and lots of storage . Nice size room with excellent balcony

Ship tip

Book restaurants early

Ports of call

TRIESTE (VENICE), ITALY

5 out of 5
What a surprise this city turned out to be. Great restaurants, vistas and lots to see

Venice, Italy Did not visit port

They cancelled it last minute. We were fine as we’ve been there but many were disappointed and NCL knew way in advance they would have to cancel. They really need to think through this intentional misleading strategy they seem to adopt

Rijeka, Croatia

1 out of 5
It must be very cheap to dock here as there is literally nothing to see or do. Stay on the ship

Split, Croatia

5 out of 5
Lots to do and see. Really interesting. We did a self found food tour. Was great

Kotor, Montenegro

4 out of 5
Really beautiful and a great walk up the mountain. Pretty but you need just a few hours here

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
So much to see. We hired a guide for a 5 hour walking tour and it was fantastic. Personally dump Rijeka and stay longer here

Corfu, Greece

4 out of 5
What’s the point of staying somewhere for 6 hours. No time to see or experience much. Nice port but again too short

Santorini, Greece

1 out of 5
Why bother. You get about 8 hours here but by the time the tender gets you to shore then wait in line for the cable car you have about 4 hours left. It’s spectacularly beautiful but jammed and unpleasant. Cruise ships need to rethink why exactly they are here

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
The big surprise. Loved it. Great shopping, fantastic place to walk and lose yourself in small streets . Great restaurants and cafes. Definitely come back

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

3 out of 5
Who knows we got in cab and went to hotel. Athens is great and lots to see and do

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Great. We walked off carrying our own bags and in the cab in 10 minutes from leaving our room

Thanks for your review. Sorry you didn’t get to enjoy Santorini. It’s a gorgeous place from above with views of caldera below and cruise ships looking like tiny from above. Don’t know if they have mule rides to take you up to top. Ouia is a short, gorgeous taxi ride with lovely cliffs. Artists sell jewelry there for decent $.

Interesting, Thanks we are going in July. Only difference is we visit Hvar instead of Reijeka, I'm surprised it was a port, agread nothing to do at that port. The Venice thing is very misleading, I'm hearing Venice is going to be canceled on all sailings so why not just tell folks now. And why keep referring to the port of Trieste as sailing to or from "Venice" it is not. Venice is 3hrs away by car. I also have been to Venice many times so not a biggie if it gets canceled for us, But would like to know what folks have done in Trieste.
