Review summary

Don't think I will travel on NCL again. There entertainment was not good. The buffet was ok. The food in the dining room was not good and the staff was very slow. So when you got the not good food it was cold. Some of the sales people in the onboard shops didn't have a clue. And disembarkation on the last day was a nightmare.

Disembarking isn’t a NYC problem. It starts on the ship with the crew not giving a rats ass. You would think that with the number of times disembarking happens, they would have it down to a science.

I hear that a lot that disembarking in NYC is a problem. Personally after 5 years of sailing on the Gem I have never had a problem. That's because on the last day, I still consider it a vacation day. I get up at 8 or 9, have a great leisurely breakfast, and don't even think about leaving the ship before 10:30. I schedule my day back to be part of the cruise instead of trying to rush home. When you leave the ship at 10:30, everybody is long gone, your bags at the pickup area are the only ones left, and the customs staff is still there in full with nobody to service you you walk right through. Now I have the advantage of living only about an hour from the pier, but even if I didn't, I would definitely make plans to stay the night in NYC (your visiting NYC!, stay the night and take in the city for pete's sake!, ) and the next day is a travel day.

dianekrom: OP mentioned the disembarking was a nightmare. Maybe NYC? If that's the case, the dockside operations is not run by NCL. It is run by the NY Port Authority and is consistently a mess. Getting people off the ship is dependent on how smooth people are processed out of the terminal.
