Best specialty restaurants in the industry! by paulsr12569

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our favorite feature on the cruise was the quality food and accommodations.  We were impressed also with the top shelf drinks.  No expense spared.

We loved Totola but was disappointed in the surrounding at St. Thomas.  We never even got off the ship in the Bahamas as we have been there before and did not enjoy the dirty areas and the pressured merchants.

The No Smoking regulations off guest balconies was not enforced.

Dinner Reservation Problems by alycefm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The only complaint I have is that my husband and I rented 5 cabins ( 2) balconies to take our children and 7 grandchildren on this cruise.  The restaurants Manhattan, Savor and Taste could not accommodate all of us at one table 4 nights out of 7.  Why would I take my family on a cruise to have my grandchildren sit at another table?  I had made reservations in advance .  Also, The kids area was too close to the main pool and way way too crowded. My grandson almost drown from an adult man being in the kids pool.  This needs to be more monitored to only let parents with children IN the pool  be in the kids pool.

Thoroughly enjoyed by lynda249

Very nice ship.  What stands out in my mind was the excellent service.  We had good experiences with most of the venues (bars, restaurants, shops) in terms of stellar service.  Loved the water slides.  Much fun.

Vacation went by too fast! by dventura22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

food and service exceptional, staff always smiling and asking if everything is to your liking, can they get anything for you, etc. All the ports were nice except for Nassau as they had too many ships docked at same time and it was bumber to bumber people, couldn't really enjoy the town at all. Plenty of entertainment and things to do, enjoyed the wine tasting play and the Manhattan and Le Bistro rooms to eat in .Only complaint is that the pool is way too small for the number of people on ship. They devoted two levels to water slides and rope climbing and I think they should have made more space for the adult pool as that's where the majority of the people hung out during the day.

Escape cruise by barbara520georg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Food was awesome!  Much better than Royal Carribbean and I'm a Diamond Plus member ar Rcl they also had something fun going on all the time.  Lots of live music in different parts of the ship and the adult grotto was the best, no kids nice music hot tubs and the stone grotto.  I found the crew was not as friendly as on Rcl our room stewed didn't introduce himself or asked if we had any special requests as they do on Rcl.  But getting back on the ship after visiting an island is an event in itself!  Cups of cold jello water sprayed on you I ices for the kids cold water towel exchange and cold wash cloths to wipe off with, they even had crew there to sing and greet. Very high class they made you feel so welcome.   Rcl better take notice!

we had the drink package and that was very nice the drinks were so good.  I'm really thinking of switching over to Norwegian it's so much cheaper and you don't miss anything real value for your money

We liked it, But... by goodwind

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall, we enjoyed our cruise on the Norwegian Escape.  The ropes course was a great activity for the children. I was not a fan that you had to make reservations for all the shows.  Bingo was quite pricey and can easily you run up the tab.  The staff however, was great.  We enjoyed the Art Gallery and the Art Gallery Staff were amazing.  The Teppanyaki Restaurant was our favorite that we went to.  We had the Ultimate Beverage and Dining package.  Next time we will not take the Dining package.  It was only available for use at a few places.  Since, the adults only had the package we had to pay for the children.  The cost for the children even on the kids menu was full price ($24-$29), so we got the kids the adult meals.  It was hard to attend many activities that we were interested in since they ran simultaneously.  Popular activities in the atrium were always crowded making it also hard to attend. The pools were extremely crowded.  Went only 1 time due to this issue. My youngest didn't even want to go back due the crowd and rude children.  Elevators were slow and frustrating.  Majority of the time taking the stairs up 6-7 flights was faster.  We would recommend the ship again.  However, probably not during the busy summer season.  We would consider this ship again during off seasons.

this was the best vacation ever by strockts

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I would have to say that the best part of the vacation was the musicals ,the dealer no deal , the comedy show, and the show is by the pool side. The children love their age group adventures. We loved our excursion which was snorkeling. We love the dining staff. We love pretty much everything about thr cruis. The children love their age group adventures. Great Service - Wonderful Ship by SoSunny

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We've been on several cruises with Norwegian (and other carriers) and we were very impressed with the level of service we received. You will be well treated, well fed, and entertained. The decor and layout of this newer ship is wonderful.

The islands of Tortola and St. Thomas were a real treat, although Nassau was not my cup of tea. We took excursions for the first two islands, and walked Nassau ourselves. The stores were fairly expensive, although I picked up something at the straw market which was a good deal. Also stopped in at the Pirate Museum which would be an interesting and affordable - and walkable - visit for a family. Just up the street from there was a fascinating church if you like history - and it was free to visit.

It's worthwhile to try out the premium restaurants on this ship, although the food at the complimentary venues was outstanding so you won't suffer if you don't want to spend the extra dough. Try the tapas bar overlooking the "waterfront", and go to Food Republic, which was near our room, to get fusion sushi bites. Cagneys did a respectable job as a premium steakhouse, and the French Bistro scored a 10 in food preparation.

I also must recommend the Thermal Suite. While the deal is around $200 for the duration of the ship, the environment is like having a spa at your disposal. The snow room was not functioning during our visit but everything else was absolutely exception. I'm going to miss that therapy pool!

Norwegian Escape by marshasell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The food was very good. Comparing it to my experience last year on the Norwegian Getaway I felt the service was more personable last year, but that was just a difference in staff I guess.  Wish there was more time in Tortola, but overall it was a great experience.

budet travelers-think twice by maryandrj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I would not recommend to budget minded.  Once on ship the charges begin, above what you paid for cruise. My favorite thing was the food at O'sheehan pub improvements=a gratuity is something I  give for good service not something you set($13.50 per person per day)and you decide who gets the money.  If that is how you going to do it, make it part of the cruise price. Then I can regain the power of rewarding those who give me excellent service. Balcony room closet is hard to get to/less reservations/the high step up to bath room was difficult/more time in ports/don't charge us to play billiards and more reasonable prices for kid games

Beach buddies by august24

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My favorite part was the three sea days!! There is so much to do. What I think could change is the Broadway shows. The shows are adult content and suitable for young ears. The ship is beautiful and the staff amazing. We were never bored and

 always had lounge chairs.

AWESOME!! by kimberlymoore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was the first time my family has cruised on NCL. Much to our surprise NCL is like a welled oiled ship. The staff was so friendly and helpful. When we returned to the ship there was music, wet- moist towels, sitting areas, and dancing/singing staff members. My kids even made mention "I feel sorry for Carnival cruises because it's dead over there and we're like a party on land and sea". The shows and entertainment was amazing. Howl at the Moon was FANTASTIC, and the Cat's Pajama's and Brat Pack was awesome. The rooms were very nice and modern but could have had more space. I liked the free-style dining, but the set menu was the same every night. I wished there was more of a variety on each night. The buffet options were great but they need to stay open later for people who are out late. I appreciated the room service however my kids cost me a fortune with the $7.95 service fee where the other cruise lines just put a 18% tax on the food. One night it cost me $54 dollars between the food, drinks, and chocolate covered strawberries ordered from room service. I understand charging for the strawberries but if the buffet stayed open later that might cut down on the extras charges to the room. I enjoyed the excursions a lot and would recommend the B.O.S.S underwater scooters, zip-lining, and parasailing. Also, it's worth the effort to catch a ferry from St. Thomas to St. John's to see Trunk Bay. trunk Bay is rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world. We went to one of the specialty restaurants (Japanese) and was totally entertained, the food was plentiful and delicious.

I would sail NCL again and will be better prepared about the extra charges.

"The Norwegain Escape is truly.....an Escape from the ordinary!" by DrDennis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Cruising is like LIFE itself....you experience some good things and you experience some  not so good things.  As you become a more seasoned "cruiser", you inevitably begin to make comparisons between cruise lines, the ships, the amenities, the food, the pool deck, the entertainment, the service and the list goes on.  Well, after making all those comparisons, the Norwegian Escape rises to the top of the list. The one category that exceeded every other cruise that we've been on in the past FORTY years was the customer service.  It was absolutely without doubt.... EXCEPTIONAL!   Every single staff member, from the cabin steward to the Captain, did whatever they could to make sure that this cruise was the most pleasurable experience you've ever had at sea....AND it was!  Even the associates at the guest services desk endeavored to do their best to help you.  Yep, I did say, "The guest services desk"!  A place that I've been many times, as I'm sure many others have as well, ....hoping but not expecting a satisfactory outcome. Well, surprise, surprise. Jessa, the guest services desk associate went out of her way to honor my request.  Truthfully, every Norwegian staff member did their job enthusiastically and with an honest smile on their faces.  It was obvious that they did their job with a true desire to please the passenger, not simply because it was their job.   Here's a really nice touch... Staff members were outside the ship dancing with music playing to welcome you back onto the ship as you returned from visiting the islands.  AND even more special was the line of staff members outside the ship bidding you a farewell and thanking you for having cruised with them, as you disembarked!   The ship itself was absolutely beautiful. There were more than enough activities going on everyday to please anyone's fancy.  The entertainment was "Top Notch"!  The food was what you would expect on a cruise. It was good and plentiful.  Maybe too good, we found ourselves "grazing" a lot more than we usually do on a cruise. We loved this cruise......and we know you will too!   Dr. Dennis & Kim Harkins   PS It was our very first time to Tortola.....simply....Paradise!

Haven suite was superb by bniedbalski

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have never stayed in a suite, but this was worth the cost.  Private butler, private pool and sundeck for Haven guests.  Private restaurant was excellent.  Cagney's and Japanese steakhouse were great.  Brazilian restaurant was just OK.  We rarely ate at the general buffet.  It was similar to any other cruise buffet.  Entertainment was average.  We've seen better in other cruise lines
