Review summary

This cruise represents the pinnacle of travel for my wife and I. We checked more boxes on this cruise than I care to count. I recommend a cruise like this to anyone.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was as smooth as silk. NCL kept us informed via email and there was little waiting

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The specialty restaurants are first class. The main dining rooms are good too but they need to focus on food temperature. Lots of cold servings.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We love the trivia games and the general goings on in the atrium. We love to walk the outside decks such as the waterfront.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Choir of Man is a must see. Really well done.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
If there is one thing the staff know how to do it is make you feel important. Every one of them, from our cabin steward to the hosts/hostesses at the restaurants deserves to be publically acknowledged for their hospitality.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship's layout is great. No complaints.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Perfect for us. We can sit on the balcony all day and all night and watch the water go by. We think about how difficult it must have been for the Mayflower, what with no atrium bar. How did they do it?

Ports of call

New York, New York

1 out of 5

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
The Bermuda National Museum is a great treasure. We go there every time we visit Bermuda.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

5 out of 5
The Azores was a treat because we set our expectations that it would get canceled. But we got to go.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Lisbon was awesome, the food is to die for. Cataplanas is a must try.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
We did a tapas lesson in Cadiz, it was our best port. The people were wonderful and the tour guide was great.

Malaga, Spain

3 out of 5
Malaga gets three stars, but only because of NCL. They somehow screwed up our passports and our scheduled trip to Gibraltar was canceled. The one thing I loathe about NCL is their inability to take responsibility for their mistakes. Never did get a good explanation about the Gibralter incident. Turns out that Malaga has a stupendous beach.

Ibiza, Balearic Islands

4 out of 5
We did not see the need to go into town. We stayed on the ship and relaxed. We just got off to get some gifts at the duty free shop.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
We went to shore and visited Las Ramblas, it was cool but it caters to overfed Americans. Their idea of tapas is more of a full meal. It was good and tasty, but too much food.

Cannes, France Did not visit port

The weather was crappy so we decided, thankfully, to not venture ashore.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

4 out of 5
The Florence Pisa trip was nice, but they first bring you to is a jewelry/leather tourist trap and then they show you the artistic sites. Pisa is a dump, the Italians should be ashamed of it.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
We didn't really do anything but go to our airport hotel. It seemed like a nice place and the people were friendly.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Exactly as expected. No issues.
